you underestimate lenovo:

Didn;t know that. In any case I would stay away from any product with Lenovo and AMD on the same sentence.

I own a T14s Amd and tested S3 sleep in linux and windows and in both i get ~1% batterydrain per hour..

A battery consumption of ~1% per hour in S3 sleep mode is definitely not normal. My old macbook air (2014) has 1% per day.

Please fix this, its not acceptable for a 2000$ notebook!

I checked my battery consumption over the last two days, and I can confirm these numbers.

My T14s consumes in Windows10-sleep (apparently S3) 0.97% per hour.

In Linux, the laptop consumes during S3-sleep also ~1% per hour.

I am wondering, how the guarantee of my battery/laptop is handled by Lenovo, as the battery wear is much higher.

@MarkRHPearson can give us information about this concern? Is the wear and tear on the battery covered by the normal and premier support?

What I mean is: Do I get a free battery replacement - lets say - in one year, when my battery shows less capacity due to the sleep-drain?

interesting idea, you mean disconnecting all power cords from battery and connect again?

This is weird - I wrote an update for this yesterday, but it doesn't seem to have appeared. Apologies if this is brief...writing things twice means you're getting the summary version.

The testing results are back. I know you guys are dissing the methodology but this are the industry standard of measuring and it let's us compare like-with-like.

The energy consumption of sleep mode is 1.7W for Ubuntu (vs 1.26W for Windows)

This is within the energy cert allowance so the system now passes which is good news (cue flame war...).

I'll look into what we can do for improving the Linux numbers, my expectation is some of the difference there might be due to S3 vs S0ix but I need to discuss with the AMD engineers.

If anybody is seeing dramatically different numbers on their system let me know and we can dig into that. The testing is testing the worst-case HW configuration so your numbers should be the same or better.

The team in China reported energy consumption of 1.7W? Not power consumption? Energy in W?

Lets assume it is power. 1.7 Watts? In sleep mode? Is this for real or are the team in China trolling us? It means ~150 mAmps. No mystery why the laptop is warm when in sleep mode. This thing is an accident waiting to happen... Even a car in sleep mode has lees than 50 mAmps current draw.

Just to be sure I am understanding this correctly. There are tools that report current battery capacity in mwh. So 1.7W S3 drain would mean 1700 mwh decrease in capacity per hour. Is that correct?

If it is, that is ridiculous for two reasons:

  • I measured 530 mwh in a 10 year old intel e420. How can you justify modern high-end machines being that much worse?
  • there's no way S3 should be worse than S0ix (assuming that's what you mean by 1.26W for Windows). Everything but the memory should be powered off in S3, whereas in S0ix the CPU and possibly other components are still on, the system is still effectively running. S3 should have much lower drain.

The T14 battery capacity is 50000 mwh. With a 1700 mwh "expected" drain that's 29 hours of sleep. This piece of garbage won't sleep through a weekend.

@MarkRHPearson Just to be thorough.

What is the energy consumption of a T14 with AMD and 1.29 firmware version with Linux and S3?

What is the energy consumption of a T14 with INTEL and the latest version firmware with Linux and S3?
