Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

This is so sad to see... At this point I'm only asking that the upcoming BIOS patch works once and for all and at least I can leave the laptop off without worrying.

I had my concerns before buying because it is a first generation product and you know, sh*t experiments happens, but I thought that even having some quirks at the beginning, they will sort them out because they are supposed to be a top company with many loyal users behind and almost a safe bet for Linux. It turns out that I trusted too much. This is the most expensive hardware I've ever bought and probably the worst experience.

I don't think so there will be patch fixing this. For Lenovo this is a non issue.

I mean about drain when power off.

They are planning to make a release around mid July: https://github.com/fwupd/firmware-lenovo-thinkpad/issues/131#issuecomment-868800572

I hope that once updated to 1.32 the power off drain will be solved, as it was a non issue pre 1.30.

I have to disappoint you, 1.32 solves nothing regarding that issue.

Also, you don't have to wait for fwupd ( which may break hell again ), use the iso file to update the BIOS.

Hello everyone,

I followed this thread also for a long time silently and like everyone else I' disapointed and annoyed. I even bought a Windows 10 license to resolve the issue. Guess what - the issue still exists.

I' contacted the Lenovo support and tomorrow a technician will change the battery. I would love to see that this is the solution but it is more likely that the technician and I will become friends. ;-)

I encourage You to do the same to make this issue even more visible to Lenovo.

Greetings, Peter

.....and do you have any improvement after the battery change?

No. There is no improvement. :-( Over the weekend I will just for documentation purpose recharge the battery and send it off to sleep mode multiple times. And next week the support and I will do an iteration cycle. ;-)

If any significant changes happens, I will post it.

Well, I did upgrade yesterday with the iso file and after ~12 h. power off drain was zero. I will double check during the weekend with a longer stretch.

Besides of that, update process was super scary (again). Like two minutes with a black screen after booting the USB and nothing happening. Then, all of the sudden fan goes at max. speed and a ncurses-like menu appears on screen to proceed. The quality assurance for this firmware is non existing almost...

@osnix i briefly tried your test scenario and can confirm similar results, i'm not an expert or anything, but your judgement on the BROKEN PSU firmware management looks the most viable root cause here.

As an aside... @osnix have Lenovo asked you about bringing some help or feedback? I mean, it's obvious there are people here that could give valuable insights to the FW team and it looks like they prefer to solve this with one hand tied to the back.

Thank you for giving that a try.

I have to say this is a guess, purely based on my experience with other devices with such an issue.

It may be a piece of HW that doesn't work correctly also, or PSU  <-?-> BAT communication also.

If I am correct, there are 3 possible scenarios:

1) A firmware update could solve that completely.

2) Faulty HW which requires either board replacement or replacing the faulty piece.

3) A firmware update with user intervention, eg: open laptop, disconnect BAT

( follow instructions like maybe shorting some PINs to try unstuck whatever is not working ).

Success is here 50/50 probably.

I don't have docs or the motherboard schematic diagram of the laptop, but maybe @MarkRHPearson

could have a closer look. I guess he can obtain it internally :)

I will be home on weekend and have a look at all ACPI tables, their _PTS ( Prepare To Sleep ),

method looks somewhat strange too.
