Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Is this seriously not fixed?  Just got this piece of garbage (T14 AMD) and keep opening up a dead laptop. Drain is crazy fast.

Im on 1.32 btw. Running PopOS 21.04

Will be going back to my T480s if there is no fix.

Welcome to the party! We're here waiting for almost 1 year. Lenovo, you're not a small company with insufficient funds. Support for one of the two main OS-s on your hardware hasn't been fixed for a year. We're early adopters, the pro users who advise family and friends on their IT questions. Is this the kind of image you want to project?

It's not just one OS, it's both, Windows also has the same problem just less so. It's still double what it should be (instead of triple for Linux).

I hope that we don't hear anything from Mark because he is now
in close contact with the FW team, trying to figure out why T14 AMD Gen 2
is not affected by the S3 drain and guiding them to check the PSU firmware
on Gen 1, after osnix identified it as the major issue of the battery drain.

And I really hope that it's not because Lenovo muzzled him and ordered
not to make any further statements about this issue. Because people are
getting increasingly annoyed by the situation and in the light of the facts
that came out in the last days (PSU firmware and Gen 2 being not affected)
we more than deserve an explanation.

IMHO Lenovo still has a chance not to loose their face in this situation if they
act in a swift and customer friendly manner. Ignoring the situation is only
going to make things worse.

I've not been muzzled :) I might get to the point where I can't make progress - but I'm still working on this (for Linux) but afraid I don't have anything useful to share. I've done some testing but nothing conclusive or magical yet.

As every post I make (and I'm sure I'll regret this one) is normally followed by a barrage of abuse I'm (mostly) just being quiet until I actually have something to share (I also had a week of PTO and am catching up on far too many emails).

As a note - thank you to those with constructive/useful posts with debug details - it's appreciated and not being ignored.

Mark

Mark, could you tell us the state of Gen 2 concerning the battery drain on S3?

I’m new to this forum, and am unaware of the “abuse” you have received thus far.

That being said, people have every right to be pissed off at Lenovo over this situation. I don’t know what your relationship is with Lenovo, but if we are going to get ghosted from this company, you should be speaking on our behalf and sharing what their response is. (if you are in contact with them)

If you are “refusing to comment” until you know more, you are just running PR for them and people should also be pissed off at you as well.

This is completely unacceptable and Lenovo needs to make this situation right, either by releasing a fix, or a credit, or SOMETHING.

At the very least we deserve a response from them, and if you are gonna give us the same run around then shame on you as well. I understand everybody needs a paycheck, but hearing complaints about this company is specially what you are being paid for.

A critical first step to resolving this is setting the proper goal/target for S3 drain on these gen1 AMD machines. It has to be based on S3 drain in prior lenovo intel models which is in the 0.5 neighborhood. That's roughly what everyone expected when buying these and 2x-4x worse than that makes these lemons.

According to https://forums.lenovo.com/topic/findpost/27/5037674/5369554 gen2 is getting there

ThinkPad T14/P14s Gen 1 (2020) - 1.2
ThinkPad T14/P14s Gen 2 (2021) = 0.8

ThinkPad T14s Gen 1 (2020) = 1.6
ThinkPad T14s Gen 2 (2021) = 0.6

though 0.8  is still to high.

So can you acknowledge 0.5 as the goal?

So they can set a goal and promise to solve it by the time these are obsolete?

This should have been fixed yesterday, or at the very least the problem should be acknowledged by Lenovo.

I'm selling this piece of garbage to whoever wants to deal with this.  The fact that this thread was started LAST SEPTEMBER is pretty insane.

If Lenovo doesn't want our business, that is not a problem - many manufacturers are making quality laptops and I'm happy to give them my business.

I will continue to trash Lenovo to whoever wants to hear.

Lenovo - YOU SUCK!!!

@Mark_Lenovo Mark, you're answering wrong questions.

CAN YOU PLEASE COMMENT on AMD GEN2 being completely workable laptop comparing it's gen1 counterpart?
