Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Works just fine for me.

Interesting 🤔

For me it started showing me  no device found when I had to use today for a test  (used to work a few weeks  back)

web browser also cannot suddenly detect camera

Even other webcam apps like cheese has suddenly stopped working

Had to borrow my dad's laptop to give my test

Also just grep for CONFIG_HSA_AMD, 5.13 only has one option, 5.14 will gain one more.

Grepping for CONFIG_HSA_AMD_ won't match CONFIG_HSA_AMD :)

True... Thanks osnix.

[dvd@dvd-fedora ~]$ sudo grep "CONFIG_HSA_AMD" /boot/config-5.13.4-200.fc34.x86_64
CONFIG_HSA_AMD=y
[dvd@dvd-fedora ~]$ sudo grep "CONFIG_INTEL_PMC_CORE" /boot/config-5.13.4-200.fc34.x86_64
CONFIG_INTEL_PMC_CORE=y

So I'll disable CONFIG_HSA_AMD and report back tomorrow.

which is still 0,51 wh.

By 501 minutes this is 0.48978 W/h.

My run from tonight, 496 minutes was 0.3447 W/h which is not the best I saw so far.

However, I hit a wall on 0.31 W/h.

That said, please check for this tuned Fedora is using and disable it and all alike SW.

You can check with powertop if something like BT/WIFI or the audio codec is eating

a lot on runtime. If so, enable all optimizations this tools suggest. ( even if not just enable for a test run )

Use schedutil or powersave governor. If you have disabled devices in BIOS, enable all.

Right now I'm in the middle of testing BIOS devices/options ON/OFF vs runtime & suspend drain in S3 and S0ix.

I see a very strange behavior with some devices OFF or ON but some options OFF. As an example NIC enabled,

DASH enabled ( not configured ), Network options OFF like ipv4/ipv6, causes the NIC to eat 2W+ on runtime, without

even a LAN cable attached :). Disabling the CAM can increase suspend drain to 100% on S0ix a bit less in S3,

and cause the BT device to eat 1W+ on runtime while doing nothing. Also disabling Smard card device may cause

the audio codec to go crazy. There are some other weird things in BIOS but this is something for a different thread :)

This would be hilarious if there wasn;t 1800 € involved... Lenovo should replace those "laptops"...

Sure.

I've no idea how Lenovo QA's his BIOS / Firmware and if there are QA's at all.

Things like this should be tested before a machine gets released ofc, not after.

It looks to me like the BIOS team(?) just boots on both OSes, and that is all about it,

if it boots is fine, it doesn't have to work ;). And it has to pass e-cert, forgot this one ;)

One would expect premium firmware for a premium machine, but the reality is different :)

if you dump the ACPI tables, in some you can literally *see* copied & pasted code :) The block formatting is

off by a lot, and that only happens if you c&p from somewhere and don't correct formating after.

There is also a lot of unused code, mixed code, old code, code left there for Intel boxes even...

I am also on Fedora 34 and have the same kernel as you @le-dvd . The kernel parameters are also the same. Do I still have to switch to "Windows" in the bios for it to work?

Yes, you need W10 in the power menu.

This is because Lenovo splits S3 as Linux and S0ix as Windows, both Os'es could work with both modes,

but yeah, it is how it is, I guess.

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Hey,

I'm (X13) on the new Fedora Kernel Linux X13.lan 5.13.4-200.fc34.x86_64

and Bios 1.30 with S0ix setting. My laptop looses now only 30% of battery power over the weekend. Before the new Kernel the battery was empty on Monday when I set the laptop to suspend on Friday.

Wake up from suspend from RAM took sometimes a while but it's working halfway now.

Append iommu=pt tsc=nowatchdog to your kernel CMD, which will work around the issue.

You may want to append acpi_osi=Linux too.
