Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Anyone knows where to see if this is backported by Canonical??

Also tried 5.14. rc3 from mainline kernel and found out that when shutting down P14s ..reboots :)

Hey,

I'm (X13) on the new Fedora Kernel Linux X13.lan 5.13.4-200.fc34.x86_64

and Bios 1.30 with S0ix setting. My laptop looses now only 30% of battery power over the weekend. Before the new Kernel the battery was empty on Monday when I set the laptop to suspend on Friday.

Wake up from suspend from RAM took sometimes a while but it's working halfway now.

Stay away from BIOS 1.30. It drains battery even when powered off

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Overnight, I had an energy consumption of 0.380174292W/h (9h 11min).
Much better than before.

P14s with the latest Fedora 34 and "Windows 10" in the bios settings.

Edit: Second test with shorter duration (2h 29min) with the result of 0.406766009W/h.

Hi Everyone,

I got tired of checking the discharge rate by hand and made a small script which you can find in the repository below. It should work on any distribution using systemd.

What are your other BIOS settings?

I'm also using the latest F34, also set sleep mode to "Windows 10", but I'm observing some ~0.8 W drain on T14s (BIOS 1.34)

Well, I doubt the F34 kernel changed in the last few days to have the right options set.

So first use a kernel is confirmed to work with certain options.

The T14s uses more energy regardless, see around page 50 - 55 ( I believe ) of this thread for

numbers @blaumetallic posted. With the right kernel, it will go down to ~0.42 W/h.

@mrremo your numbers are Okish, but I still doubt the Fedora kernel you are using has stuff set right.

The best I saw o my P14s was 0.31 W/h. And yes shorter suspends eat more energy.

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

I indeed needed to recompile with the right options.

In kernel-local :

CONFIG_AMD_PMC=y
CONFIG_I2C_HID_ACPI=m
# CONFIG_HSA_AMD is not set

But the numbers I got were still too high for my taste (around 0.5 Wh).

I now enabled sleep-then-hibernate, with hibernate after 30 minutes.

I'd rather wait a bit when it resumes than drain and kill my battery.

Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

Making use of @0li script, running pop 21.04 and canonical mainline kernel 5.14 rc3 I get this results on P14s:

sudo journalctl -u systemd-suspend.service | tail
[sudo] senha para jt:
jul 27 11:53:38 pop-os systemd[1]: systemd-suspend.service: Succeeded.
jul 27 11:53:38 pop-os systemd[1]: Finished Suspend.
jul 27 12:30:37 pop-os systemd[1]: Starting Suspend...
jul 27 12:30:37 pop-os systemd-sleep[18200]: Saving time and charge.
jul 27 12:30:38 pop-os systemd-sleep[18198]: Suspending system...
jul 27 21:18:39 pop-os systemd-sleep[18198]: System resumed.
jul 27 21:18:39 pop-os systemd-sleep[18513]: Suspend duration: 08h 48m.
jul 27 21:18:39 pop-os systemd-sleep[18485]: Discharge rate: .44202 W/h.
jul 27 21:18:40 pop-os systemd[1]: systemd-suspend.service: Succeeded.
jul 27 21:18:40 pop-os systemd[1]: Finished Suspend.

This kernel is runnig with these default options:

CONFIG_AMD_PMC=m

CONFIG_I2C_HID_ACPI=m

CONFIG_HSA_AMD=y
CONFIG_HSA_AMD_SVM=y

Notice that these options are not set as "supposed" for the results @osnix gets...

I will revert to kernel 5.11 (pop default) and see what is different..

BIOS V1.34 is up on LVFS.

Can anyone confirm if the update happens without any hitches?
