Re:T14 AMD battery drain in standby (Linux)

BIOS 1.29 is better than nothing but unacceptable for a machine sold as robust / bussiness-grade, I hope this reaches Lenovo dev team.

Problem is not unique to T14. I can confirm that at least X13 and P14s are affected as well.

Makes me wonder if this topic should be renamed to something like "Battery drain in Suspend/Hibernate on Ryzen Laptops".

that would be pretty reasonable.

while my battery still drains around 1% during the "two nights" being completely powered down (1.29), i wonder if i should downgrade even further 😁

i suspect that they introduced this with fixing sleep issues, at least my lenovo splash screen didn't persist for too long before.

just for the sake of experiment, tried 1.27 and 1.25 BIOS firmware versions and system won't let it to be installed. I guess some deep downgrade scenario is not supported or something.

Have you changed the "Rollback prevention" option in BIOS?

yep, right before downgrading to 1.29, didn’t change anything.

@MarkRHPearson Can you please let us know if you have any new ETA for fixing these issues?

There's a proposed kernel patch that is supposed to fix this (in one of the earlier postings), I've not confirmed directly myself and the fix hasn't been through energy-cert yet. I don't have an ETA on that I'm afraid - with folk returning from Chinese New Year I'm hoping it gets moving again.

I know there has been some churn on LVFS with the BIOS updates, but my understanding at the moment is that the fix isn't in the BIOS. The root cause has bounced around a few times between the two areas which is why it's been hard to solve.

please excuse my kernel ignorance, but how could kernel fix affect a machine which is powered off, i’m suspecting that this same bug both affects machine in powered down and standby states.

please correct me, if i’m wrong here.

this is so frustrating, as i can’t even sell my laptop, as nobody would buy a machine with draining battery.

To my understanding this problem is not OS related... so.. yea... the kernel patch will only solve problems after OS is booted. Other power settings are BIOS related and solvable only by patching BIOS... but... I can be wrong
