T14 gen2 Intel, various issues

2021-07-21, 6:47 AM

v5.10.40 LTS kernel, T14 gen2 powered by i5-1145G7 TigerLake CPU.

  1. DPC: RP PIO log size 0 is invalid (kernel.org Bug ID 209943)

    [    0.719122] pci 0000:00:07.0: PME# supported from D0 D3hot D3cold
    [    0.719144] pci 0000:00:07.0: DPC: RP PIO log size 0 is invalid

    [    0.720033] pci 0000:00:07.2: DPC: RP PIO log size 0 is invalid
    [    0.720300] pci 0000:00:0d.0: [8086:9a13] type 00 class 0x0c0330

  2. Can't claim BAR 0 at el. (relevant link)

    [    0.833400] pci 0000:00:1f.5: can't claim BAR 0 [mem 0xfe010000-0xfe010fff]: no compatible bridge window

    ...

  3. Duplicate WMI GUIDs. This looks similar to what @osnix has reported previously for T14 AMD:

    [    1.610314] acpi PNP0C14:02: duplicate WMI GUID 05901221-D566-11D1-B2F0-00A0C9062910 (first instance was on PNP0C14:00)
    ...

  4. Missing or invalid SUBNQN field. Interestingly, the very same NVME was not reporting this on P14s AMD gen1.

    [    1.614547] nvme nvme0: missing or invalid SUBNQN field.

  5. Trackpoint drift is back! Usual trick with setting "device/drift_time" via udev rule does nothing.

    [    2.948602] psmouse serio2: trackpoint: Elan TrackPoint firmware: 0x11, buttons: 3/3

Re:T14 gen2 Intel, various issues

1,2,3 ->BIOS problems.

4 ->NVME controller firmware issue.

A simple kernel patch can fix that, the device needs NVME_QUIRK_IGNORE_DEV_SUBNQ, quirk.

5. Not sure

6 > can be both, BIOS and/or kernel.

7 -> BIOS problems

( probably missing Method(s), Linux doesn't poke EC directly for those )

8 -> ( I don't agree with the ArchLinux solution ;) )

9 -> that can be both BIOS/kernel or a mix and/or a wrong kernel version.

A note.

While the LTS kernel may work expect issues if you run a new platform, and it doesn't matter

the vendor Intel/AMD/ARM etc. You may want to test the latest stable kernel(s) and the latest linux-firmware & SOF firmware,

to see if those kernel/firmware issues still exist.

Deleting firmware files is not really a solution, regardless of the device, you may need newer firmware & a newer kernel.

Indeed. Waiting for a Bullseye release and backports.

In the meantime, this seems to affect T14g2 as well: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Ubuntu/P15s-Gen2-enp0s31f6-ethernet-networking-15-20-packet-loss/m-p/5091825

Same issue here with MCHBAR on ThinkPad E14 Gen 2 [11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7]

Despite BAR register from BDF 00:00.0 is enabled and MCHBAR is apparently correctly remapped in kernel, any register offset (from Intel datasheet TGL-UP3/4  vol2) returns zero values.

According to datasheet, trusted TXT, if enabled may prevent to access BAR but Lenovo BIOS does not present any TXT option to disable in whatever security and other tabs.

So far I'm stuck without the ability to show the IMC data in CoreFreq

DMAR: [Firmware Bug]: Your BIOS is broken; DMAR reported at address 0!

Linux kernel 5.13.12

Thinkpad E14 Gen 2

Got it.

Nothing linked with BIOS but a different way to decode the Tiger Lake IMC where DIMM registers are per Controller.
