Re: ThinkPad E485/E585 - Firmware bug ACPI IVRS table

2019-01-25, 8:19 AM

Doing some more research on the bluetooth for the intel 9260 card ive found that a similar bug has been listed

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1790454

One potential fix was mentioned

On machines with the Intel 8260 WiFi + Bluetooth combo adapter we are experiencing firmware loading failures on the Bluetooth adapter from time to time. Doing the loading operations in a mutually-exclusive fashion using a mutex avoids the problem.

 https://github.com/endlessm/linux/pull/424

The above might work for the 9260

edit***

Entering these commands gets bluetooth working for me

sudo rmmod btusb
sleep 1
sudo modprobe btusb

This web site is not compatible with Chrome.

This given method in post#116 works, it keeps existing Kernel. The clock is broken in Xfce + Suspend is not working and must be avoid. The RPM package must be force twice in Yast2, but it works.
Better to use the method in post#111. Secure boot remains an issue in OpenSuse, but not for on board Kernel.

Good to know that Bluetooth is working now.

Rc3 and 4.20.4 are now available at Kernel ppa.

Take care,

Freezes at early boot stage may be caused by amdgpu driver.

Have you tried iommu=pt  pcie_aspm=off  amdgpu.dc=1 amdgpu.aspm=0 boot parameters?

This way I don´t need iommu=soft.

I use these options with kernel 4.20.4.

No freeze at boot.

Though, I have blacklisted ath, ath10k_core and ath10k_pci.

My E585 has a Qualcomm WiFi.

I load the ath drivers later after booting, manually.

Does resume-from-suspend work for you? What is your bios firmware version?

Well, unfortunately I'm not seeing the same success some of you guys are.

  • I still have to use the ivrs_ioapic[32]=00:14.0 workaround otherwise my E585 locks up loading initrd. That's the only parameter I need though.
  • Bluetooth still does not work (with my upgraded Intel card), the removing/readding btusb doesn't work as it did for 000000.  The only thing that still works (always has), is suspend/resume makes the bluetooth finally kick on. If it doesn't lock up first....
  • I haven't had any suspend freeze-ups yet but I need to test more, they've always been random for me.

Current setup:

OS: KDE Neon

Firmware: 1.46

Current setup: Kernel 5.0rc4

I'm having the exact same issues as you. I'm running the latest stock Ubuntu 18.04 with 1.48 firmware. Hopefully 18.04.2 will resolve these issues.

I use BIOS 1.48.

To get proper waking up from suspend I added libata.force=1:nohrst this way waking up from suspend works *most* of the time.

But, this option is only useful if you have an additional drive added to the SATA port. If you only have the Nvme, you don´t need this option.

BTW, is the AMD driver team aware at all about this serious amdgpu issue?

Google tells, amdgpu freezes have been seen for many months now, with different hardware, be it desktop Vega or Raven Ridge.

Do they work on this issue?

On current openSUSE Tumbleweed (Kernel 4.20) Suspend, Wireless and Bluetooth works perfectly, only the iommu=soft command is still needed.

My E585 still freezes a lot shortly after initrd got loaded, despite using iommu=soft, using kernel 4.20.5.

Do you use any special amdgpu options? Like amdgpu.aspm=0?

For what is is worth I am seeing exactly the same behavior as described by arcooke. I have a Lenovo E585 and am running Ubuntu Mate 18.04.

I suspect the Bluetooth and suspend/resume behavior can only be fixed with a BIOS update.
