Well to be fair the XPS 15 is in another price bracket.
Also, I do not think the problems with Linux are entirely Lenovo's responsibility. I mean yes the BIOS has a bug and the GRUB needs to be manually edited to "patch it" but our machines have working without problem since we did that *and* moved to Ubuntu Mate 19.04. No more freezes or sleep of death.
This means that something else was fixed on the OS side (probably about AMD Ryzen's support).

Just tried the latest Arch Linux Kernel 5.2.5.arch1-1. At least in my setup the additional IVRS parameter is still required.
I really hope they fix this issue soon. Only Linux enthusiasts will be able to add this parameter (or even be capable of finding out that it is required int the first place). Someone just giving a live ISO/USB image a try will expect it to work out-of-the-box without any tinkering.

Using the latest BIOS, Ubuntu19.04, I only need ivrs_ioapic=00:14.0 to install os, and there is no other severe bugs. And in order to deal with error in logs, I add pcie_aspm=off, but I don't know if it's right.

To boot FreeBSD, wait until you see the logo and press 3 for boot options, once there type:
set hw.pci.mcfg=0 boot
You also have to add it to /boot/loader.conf, more info can be found on the mailling list:
In the freebsd-current this issue is fixed, but with the releases you still need to set this.
The reason I'm not using it is because I swapped my wifi card with a intel 9260, which is not yet supported by FreeBSD. Maybe you have better luck with the default wifi card, good luck

iam using Ubuntu Mate 18.04.
since today morning after booting the OS iam not able to connect to wifi.
its running fine in windows 10. (me using dual boot)
i have to reinstall the wifi drivers. and let u know.
i was thinking to shift for 19.04 or 19.10 , but reluctant, as the post configuration of my packages will take more than half a day of time.

I was running Pop_OS and had the same issue, tried a few other Ubuntu based distros (Ubuntu, lubuntu, xubuntu) and none of them resolved my WiFi issue. Works in live cd, stopped working after install. This happened after the last firmware update, which by that point I was too fed up to try to rollback the update so I am selling my e585. I am so incredibly unhappy with this laptop.

Hurray! A fix from Lenovo!
Bios version 1.54 has just been released and from the Readme I quote the following:
[Problem fixes] - Sync IOAPICID in IVRS and APIC ACPI tables (Linux). - Enhance to address vulnerability security issue
My E585 now boots OpenSuse with the IOMMU-related flags erased.
