Thinkpad T440, T450, T460 Bios ACPI Errors

2018-10-16, 6:19 AM

Hello,

There is an ACPI bug in the bios of the Thinkpad T440 (and T450, T460 according to other users). On Linux it trigger this error at boot :

[ 0.086999] ACPI Error: Needed type [Reference], found [Integer] 00000000f7432393 (20180531/exresop-69)
[ 0.087026] ACPI Error: AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE, While resolving operands for [OpcodeName unavailable] (20180531/dswexec-427)
[ 0.087042] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed \_PR.CPU0._PDC, AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE (20180531/psparse-516)

It has been confirmed that is a bios bug by Linux Kernel developpers :

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=199983

It concern also T450 and T460 at least too :

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1458390

Can it be fixed please ? Is there a way to report the bug to Lenovo developpers too ?

Thanks !

The same error occurs on a T440s. It does not seem to interfere with the system in any obvious way except for the error message in the kernel output. Still, it would be nice to have a fix.

ThinkPad T440s, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4600U CPU @ 2.10GHz

Latest BIOS Version: GJETA2WW (2.52), Version ID: GJHT29WW

Kernel: 5.1.9-arch1-1-ARCH

ACPI Error: Needed type [Reference], found [Integer] 00000000181f1a2a (20190215/exresop-69)
ACPI Error: AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE, While resolving operands for [Store] (20190215/dswexec-427)
ACPI Error: Aborting method \_PR.CPU0._PDC due to previous error (AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE) (20190215/psparse-531)

Would also like to confirm and bump this as an issue with the Thinkpad T440 series. Just updated to the latest available UEFI/BIOS version as well.

$ sudo dmesg | grep -i acpi\ error
[ 0.336428] ACPI Error: Needed type [Reference], found [Integer] 000000008de14369 (20180810/exresop-69)

[ 0.336561] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed \_PR.CPU0._PDC, AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE (20180810/psparse-516)

Re: Thinkpad T440, T450, T460 Bios ACPI Errors ...include x250 in this list

2019-11-13, 9:03 AM

Well, I can confirm that happening on x250 ThinkPad too.

[Wed Nov 13 13:56:31 2019] ACPI Error: Needed type [Reference], found [Integer] 00000000e276f67b (20190703/exresop-66)
[Wed Nov 13 13:56:31 2019] ACPI Error: AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE, While resolving operands for [OpcodeName unavailable] (20190703/dswexec-424)
[Wed Nov 13 13:56:31 2019] ACPI Error: Aborting method \_PR.CPU0._PDC due to previous error (AE_AML_OPERAND_TYPE) (20190703/psparse-529)

As a result, probably, one of battery is not getting charged at all, stuck at 5 percent...wildly guessing....

I have the same problem with Ubuntu 20.04 on a T450. I suspect it is a kernel issue, as i didn't have the problem with Ubuntu 18.04. i am tempted now to downgrade my ubuntu installation back to 18.
