Thinkpad X1 Tablet with Linux

I recently bought a Thinkpad Xi Tablet (2nd Gen) and have been working to install linux on it.  I tried Mint 18 but it had the following issues:

- Did not recognize wireless network device

- Did not recognize the Active Pen buttons

- the trackpoint and physical buttons did not work on the Thin Keyboard

Everything else was working well.  The keyboard keys and trackpad work after disconnecting an reconecting the keyboard.  The touch and pen tip work very well.

I then tried Ubuntu 17.04.  Ubuntu recognized the wireless network device but I am still troubleshooting the wired network device.  Both active pen buttons work well in Xournal

but I am having trouble getting them to work as right and middle click in te general xorg environment.   Both of these are more minor concerns.  My priciple concerns are that the trackpoint and pyisical mouse buttons on the Thin Keyboard do not work and I cannot find the devices that correspond to the cameras.

Xinput shows the following devices:

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Wacom HID 5115 Pen stylus id=12 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Wacom HID 5115 Finger touch id=13 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ Wacom HID 5115 Pen eraser id=18 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PRIMAX ThinkPad X1 Tablet Thin Keyboard Gen 2 Touchpad id=11 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3 [master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=6 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=7 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Sleep Button id=8 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Intel Virtual Button driver id=14 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Intel HID events id=15 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=16 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ ThinkPad Extra Buttons id=17 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ PRIMAX ThinkPad X1 Tablet Thin Keyboard Gen 2 id=9 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ PRIMAX ThinkPad X1 Tablet Thin Keyboard Gen 2 id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]

There are many devices here that seem to correspond to the Thin Keyboard so I am not sure how to troubleshoot this and work towards fixing this issue.

I am not sure where to start to find the camera devices

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Re: Thinkpad X1 Tablet with Linux

I have run

xinput --test

on all the xinput devices that are listed and the neither the trackpoint nor the threee physical trackpoint buttons show any events at all

But I have found that /dev/hidraw2 does correspond to the trackpoint and its three buttons: when I run

cat /dev/hidraw2

I get "noise" when I use the trackpoint and its buttons.

Now I need to know how to connect this raw device to my xserver.  If anyone has suggestions please reply, thanks.

Re: Thinkpad X1 Tablet with Linux

Alslais,

Hi.

The trackpoint issue has a patch which fixes the problem, see discussion here.  I am a newbie at applying patches so I have not tried yet, but I am working up to it.  The patch will eventually be part of the kernel in all distros but I think from the linked discussion that it will be in Arch quite soon.

I have no news on the cameras.

Some people are having an issue with the powerbutton not working, see here

regards

brett
