Thinkpad e485 bios 1.45 resume from suspend failed - Linux

2018-10-18, 11:38 AM

after bios update to 1.45 resume from suspend failed. it didn't wake up or write anything to the logfiles.

(only a blank screen / no ssh )

resume worked fine with 1.32.  tested with fedora 29 and arch linux.

Same problem with Ubuntu 18.04 (Kernel 4.19 rc8). Suspend/Resume worked perfectly fine with BIOS 1.32, but it is broken with BIOS 1.45.

have found a workaround that works for me now.

bios:

disable bluetooth and amd vmm

linux

before suspend unload ath10k_pci and ath10k_core

remove some udev rules for powersaving, discharge rate is now around 7W.

arch linux / kernel 4.20rc2 / boot parameter: iommu=soft amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffbfff

This helped me too

update 05.12.18

archlinux with kernel 4.18.12 works very good.   (no need for works around - resume works after 8h and longer)

after kernel 4.18.12 resume is broken.

kernel linux-next 051218 works but after resume display is black - need to type brightness key. (testing)

kernel boot still needs: iommu=soft

Same Problem with 1.46 and Arch Kernel 4.19.4 - Standby and hybrid standby both don't come back. Black Screen - sometimes with frozen Mousepointer.

As kenduro pointed out unloading the modules works.

1.48 still does not fix the suspend problem. Back to 1.32 works.

did you try kernel 4.18.11 ?

i try ubuntu 18.10 with 4.18.11 and no problems with suspend.

arch linux with a newer kernel suspend still broken. hope that maybe 4.21 get a fix.

not sure that this fix will help:
