Hello

Same problem.

TouchPad not recognized / not active on Linux (mine is Ubuntu 20.04 LTS).

The notebook is IDEAPAD 5 15 ARE05 (wich is with AMD). I've tried to update the kernel to 5.7 generic but not much.

I juste received my Ideapad and it is brand new (with AMD Ryzen 4800U).

Regards

Laurent

Really annoying for a new product, no driver for ideapad is proposed by Lenovo on https://fwupd.org/ (LFVS)

Everything works on Windows, but with Linux I have no touchpad, no sound, no fingerprint sensor working :/

Hi @TheTakylo

Unfortunately the Ideapad you're using isn't a Linux supported device so I'm somewhat limited in the levers I can pull internally to get support - I don't have access to the HW or driver team for this platform. I also don't have one myself to investigate.

Can you let me know which touchpad device it is? Does it show up when you do: cat /proc/bus/input/devices?

Hopefully others out in the community can contribute suggestions. I'll ask internally and see if I can find anything but unfortunately I can't make any promises in this case

Mark

Thank you for your answer @MarkRHPearson

Currently it's no longer detected, I don't know why ... but here's the result of xinput a week ago:

Which kernel is your system using, if it is 5.4 MSFT touch pads are broken, not sure if they have fixed the issue yet in later kernels.  I know 5.3 for many customers is working

Re:Touchpad not working on ideapad 5 14iil05

2020-06-23, 16:27 PM

Greetings, recently bought the ideapad 5 14iil05 (i7 10th gen, iris) and I was having the same issues after clean install Ubuntu 20.04 (5,4 kernel).

I couldn't get sound neither touchpad to work together, once I boot I don't get sound (coulnd't find sound card, so no input no output, nothing),
second time sound is working, but can't find the touchpad, like it doesn't even exist,
and sometimes even both were broken at the same time.

I decided to downgrade to kernel 5.3 as I saw that comment here, thanks, got everything but the microphone working.
As it wasn't the option as I'm using my microphone daily, I decided to try to upgrade to the latest version of a linux kernel (5.7.1).
After I installed kernel 5.7.1 and everything was set up, restarted the laptop and everything was working.

I know it is not a good practice of upgrading kernel manually, but as an ubuntu user it is the only option for now I guess, nothing is broken, everything works out of the box.
Besides fingerprint sensor and a touchscreen, which I never intended of using anyways.

Hope this helps someone!

EDIT:

I'm using UEFI mode and as I updated to a not-signed kernel, I had to disable Secure Boot (at BIOS menu F2).
After downgrading to 5.3 my laptop was having trouble booting every first time after shutting down, it just hangs on a black screen, had to hit the power button again to turn it off, and to turn it on again, and after was working great until the shut down.
So if you run into same or similar trouble - I've managed to fix that by using: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair
And here is a kernel update guide (once again I say it is not recommended, but I guess only option for now): https://www.linuxuprising.com/2018/10/2-utilities-to-install-latest-kernel-in.html (used the cappelikan mainline GUI).
Also ESC key is for getting to advanced boot menu while booting.

Thanks!

Re:Touchpad not working on ideapad 5 14iil05

I just bought the same machine (Lenovo Ideapad 5 14 with the Ryzen 4500u model number 81YM0024MX).  It's bought specifallly for running Linux and I was very suprised that the trackpad was not functioning at all when I booted up Linux.

I installed PopOS 20.04 (based on Ubuntu) and everything works except the Trackpad.  20.04 ships with Linux Kernel 5.4 and even tried compiling 5.7.8 with additional ELAN drivers (this seems to work for owners of the 15" version) but didn't pan out.

Isn't the trackpad a generic part used by multiple manufactureres? Why are drivers apparrently not available on Linux?

It doesn't even seem to show up on the device list. But I know it works - because Windows 10 has no issues.

Really hoping for a fix from you guys. Even if you say that Linux is not a supported OS on the Ideapad Series...

Any updates from @ MarkRHPearson and @ DaveOber on this? And can you look up which trackpad specifally the Ideapad 5 15 uses? That would make diagnostic and work arounds easier to explore..

Please register here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-signed-hwe/+bug/1878279 and press the "confirm"-button, in order to show the programmers that we are many people with this problem. I have the Problem on my 14IIL05, and also bought another Lenovo V15-IIL model for my wife and wanted to install Ubuntu yesterday ... same issue.
