Touchpad of Legion 5 not working on Linux Mint 20

2020-08-02, 13:24 PM

Hello there!

I have a Legion 5-15ARH05 with dual boot (Win 10 and Linux Mint 20). Touchpad is working properly on Win10, but is not recognized on Mint 20. Linux Mint 20 is based on Ubuntu 20.04.

Already tried to enable the touchpad by installing a fix for the ideapad (see https://github.com/pavlepiramida/elan_i2c_dkms), unfortunately without success.

Any ideas how to fix that?

Best regards,

tobse

Hello,

Which desktop environment are you using?

Gnome and KDE Plasma have left Xorg (X-Windows drivers) and now use Wayland graphic engine.  Wayland graphics rely on Linux kernel module xedev to send wayland the keyboard, mouse, usb, signals.  This is different from Xorg method.

My gnome configuration has an option to activate an XOrg mode, selectable by mouse on the password entry system BEFORE starting the desktop session.  Try selecting Xorg version of Gnome.  I have a little gear icon to click, but it is not always same place on the password entry screen.

I use Fedora Workstation Linux, which has been seamless for me, no driver issues like this.  Try booting the Live USB and see if this problem goes away.

Thanks for your help!

I use Cinamon and had problems when installing Linux Mint (which I did not have with other devices). During the startup of the live USB I got a black screen and the OS did not react to any inputs, except the power button of course :). I was able to solve that by starting the live USB in compatibilty mode and did not encounter any other problems during installtion.
