Re: Troubles with X1 Carbon 2018 (X1C6) TouchPad and TrackPoint under Linux

2019-06-26, 20:58 PM

Hi Folks,

Would some people try installing

sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-hwe-18.04 (or just xserver-xorg-input-synaptics if you aren't running ubuntu 18.04 as I am).

reboot and let me know if it works, I hope it will.

I haven't tried this will the different blacklist options and the grub config combinations but you might get success with that install.

With xserver-xorg-input-synaptics-hwe-18.04 installed I have I have got rid of

psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1

but kept blacklist i2c_i801 commented out and everything seems to be good and the config options for the trackpad are back.

I think to have fixed the Touchpad Problems with the x1 carbon under ubuntu

1) Add this to /etc/default/grub

psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1

mem_sleep_default=deep

2) remove i2c_i801 in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

3) sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

you need to edit synaptics driver to make mouse usable with new drivers, because it becomes hypersensitive. These settings work for me

4) sudo gedit /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/60-synaptics-options.conf

4.1) add these lines:

Section "InputClass"

  Identifier "touchpad catchall"

  Driver "synaptics"

  MatchIsTouchpad "on"

  MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"

  Option "Fingerlow" "50"

  Option "FingerHigh" "52"

  Option "PalmMinWidth" "5"

  Option "PalmMinZ" "10"

  Option "FingerPress" "500"

  Option "MaxTapMove" "10"

  Option "MaxTapTime" "30"

EndSection

5) add the following script:

create /lib/systemd/system-sleep/touchpad:

#!/bin/sh

case $1 in

  post)

    /sbin/rmmod i2c_hid && /sbin/modprobe i2c_hid

  ;;

esac

make file executable chmod +x /lib/systemd/system-sleep/touchpad and test (suspend computer and wake-up again)

Hope this helps out.

Adding psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=0 to the kernel boot parameters finally fixed it for me. Touchpad now always works after sleep mode.

Just wanted to say thank you and good bye to everyone who has stuck around in this thread, I am utterly grateful to everyone who has contributed. Without the community support I would have been gone much earlier. I have prematurely retired my X1C6 after 2.5 years and all in all 10 years of daily use of Lenovo Notebooks of and now I have moved on to another brand. Farewell, it was great while the fun lasted.
