Re: Troubles with X1 Carbon 2018 (X1C6) TouchPad and TrackPoint under Linux

Then consider yourself lucky. I also updated the Kernel (4.20) and the BIOS (1.34) but my NFC touchpad realibly dies after resume from S3, which I enabled in the BIOS. I now switched to a MBP, which I still don't love because MacOS gives you a rather bad UX in my opinion, but at least the hardware works with the OS.

Now that I lost so much money and time on the X1C6, I would not risk to buy any other ThinkPad ever again. At least not until they'd sell one with Linux pre-installed or really make an effort to officially support it.

AaronMa from canonical is looking into the issue and has supplied a custom kernel for ubuntu which should fix the suspend/resume trackpoint/touchpad issues (at least it works for me).

The bugreport is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1791427

The specific comment with the download link is here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1791427/comments/94

He wants to upstream his patch if more could test/confirm that his changes resolve this issue.

Did anyone manage to enable pinch zoom on the X1 Carbon (2018) on Linux? What are the steps I should do to get a touchpad which is as much working as possible?

You could manually install Aarona Mas kernel deb files with "sudo dpkg -i ...". But the kernel is quite old (based on 4.20.rc3) and probably not suited  for everyday use. However, he just send his patches upstream:

https://lkml.org/lkml/2019/2/20/700

So currently the best way would be to build a kernel yourself with the corresponding patch. Or wait until they are accepted and available in mainline. Then you could install a kernel from  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline

Does the v1.37 BIOS update help?

2019-03-17, 20:08 PM

Today I just saw this update:

Does anyone know what it does? I don't see any sort of changelong at https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-x-series-laptops/thinkpad-x1-carbon-6th-gen-type-20kh-20kg/downloads/ds502281. If it doesn't add support for WWAN, fingerprint reader, or the trackpoint, I'm not going to install it - who knows what it might break.

Also, how can Lenovo claim the ThinkPad is a Linux machine, when so many essential components are broken? No fingerprint reader. No TrackPoint. No WWAN.

Re: Troubles with X1 Carbon 2018 (X1C6) TouchPad and TrackPoint under Linux

After months without any troubles with sleep mode or touchpad on Ubuntu 18.10, the last updates ( I cant say if it was the firmware or another software update) it became unusable again. What helped me was this article:  https://github.com/BelBES/thinkpad_x1_carbon_6th_linux

I just had to do this:

  1. Edit the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file and comment out following line:
# blacklist i2c_i801

Touchpad is working again!
