Re:Unusable TSC on P14s and X13 with the latest LTS kernel

I also have this issue after a cold boot. As soon as I restart, the issue is gone.

T14 (20UD0013GE) with 1.32 (R1BET63W) firmware.

Fedora 34 + Kernel 5.12.8

Yes, we know, I already explained that.

Any shutdown/poweroff command will cause that and any reboot will fix it.

Use the workaround until Mark and the firmware team figure what is wrong.

Due to this I am unsubscribing from this thread, but happy to mark it as "resolved" once the issues are indeed resolved.

Please feel free to PM me, or moderators can "re-assign" it to someone else if there are volunteers.

Kernel version makes a difference...

I was testing with our Ubuntu 20.04 OEM image updated to latest (so 5.8 kernel, but all sorts of patches that Canonical add) and wasn't seeing the problem.

By pure happenstance I was working with AMD on the docking issues we have yesterday and had built a vanilla 5.12.4 for running some tests....and I see the problem right away there.

Explains why the firmware team won't have seen it too - they won't be building their own kernels.

I'll do some digging....maybe a bisect (bleurgh...). I don't know this area of the kernel at all I'm afraid.

Mark

Mark, I don't see anything regarding TSC in the 1.34 BIOS changelog, but it seems to be fixed.

However, I just quick booted, 5.12.x,5.13.1/2,5.14.rc1, and performed some reboots, usually

I catch it with the first reboot.

I guess they fixed that for the wrong OS? Huh?

With Power set to S0ix, aka Windoze10, that error is gone, going back to Linux and S3, is there again.
