V330-14ARR touchpad not working for Linux amd64

Touchpad is not working. Tried Ubuntu 18 install and currently running Parrot Sec. Touchpad is not functioning.

I have not applied the latest BIOS update for this PC. I toasted the Windows 10 thinking I would'nt need it were I was going. Me and Linux off a cliff. I understand that it may be possible to apply the BIOS patch by running a VM of windows ? Is that possible and if so does Vagrant host such a snapshot? From soundings in the superuser discussion I don't know if a BIOS update is going to resolve this touchpad not working issue.

Re: V330-14ARR touchpad not working for Linux amd64

It will be sometime till ubuntu supports this particular touchpad, elan0616 hardware Id is missing in the kernel. I noticed that someone has submitted the changes to the linux kernel that should fix the issue, but it probably won't get merged into a stable release till Kernel version 5.2.

I have installed this myself on my Ideapad 530S-14ARR, while waiting for the 5.2 kernel

Re: V330-14ARR touchpad not working for Linux amd64

Hi Gary!

I am considering buying this laptop with the intention of running Ubuntu 18.04 exclusively.  How well did the "prototype" driver from Github work?

Thanks!

Re: V330-14ARR touchpad not working for Linux amd64

Hi Jeff!

It works very well!   I'm running Linux Mint 19.1 with kernel 4.18.20

I briefly tested kernel 5.0 but the touchpad did not work. I reverted to 4.18, did not bother testing this "prototype" driver with 5.0.  If/when I run out of patience waiting for kernel 5.2 I might try  Smiley Wink
