Windows 7/Ubuntu dual boot on a Rapiddrive system?

2011-08-16, 9:57 AM

Has anyone managed to set up Ubuntu to dual boot with Windows 7 on a Rapiddrive system (a Y570 in my case)? At the point in the installation sequence where you should have the option to wipe install, partition install or install inside Windows, it can't figure out that there is Windows 7 on the system at all. I suspect that is due to the arcane way Rapiddrive operates.

Shiva

How would you want to install Ubuntu,a clean install?or using wubi?

Ive been using Ubuntu on my Y560(Rapid drive model) for almost an year now(Using Wubi) .Are you trying to install ubuntu from an image or  from a CD?

I used an ISO image, installed alcahol 120 to mount that image and install Ubuntu. It took not more than 10 mins for me to complete the whole procedure.

Re: Windows 7/Ubuntu dual boot on a Rapiddrive system?

Hi,

I read this disscussion. I'm still very confused. I have a lenovo Y560. Had it for two years. It's given me it's fare share or troubles, but we have stuck it out. Now I really feel that I need to install a linux distro on it alongside the original Windows 7 it came with. So I want to install Ubuntu 12.04 on in using the 'install inside windows' option. I managed to boot it using a live USB drive and I started the installer. Now when I launch setup from the live Ubuntu i run (on a pendrive I made using wubi) it shows me the 'install alongside windows' , 'replace windows' and the 'something else' options but not the 'install inside windows' option.

I can't use the options I have becasue 1. I do not want to remove windows 7 and 2. If I re partition any of my drives poof! 'one key recovery' will stop working, also I'm not sure that I will be able to restore my windows on the newly resized 'C' drive using an older system image.

Is it at all possiböe to install ubuntu 'inside windows' on the Y560?
