Still waiting for this to hit X1C6. Any estimates?

Mark,

Any news on the x1E? Have you been able to collect some info from your colleagues? Eagerly awaiting your findings.

Thank you.

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

Hi all,

No news I can share yet on the updates for the other systems I'm afraid. I know it's taking a long time but just wanted to post a note that the thread and the issue isn't being ignored.

For the X1E - I've been talking to the driver team and I hope I'm getting close to having at an answer I can share but I'm not there yet - it is taking a bit more digging to make sure it's understood, particularly from the Linux point of view. It is not the same issue as is seen on the X1C7, but of course the devil is in the detail...

I do need to post a note in the other forum threads about the virtualization impact on X1E - that apparently is part of the Intel implementation and I have not been able to find out why (afraid I've been mostly asking the team on the Linux impact).

I can't see ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th in the list. Does this mean no fix in the future? :(

To my knowledge the list posted above is unofficial and has not come from Lenovo.

It's a nice clear list (and I will probably hijack it once I know what the full details are :)) but I haven't myself heard details of which platforms are getting a fix and when they will be available - and I'm talking directly to the driver team.

When I get that information (and approval to post it) I will do so.

@giperborey: I have added the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th to the list. However, I am not a Lenovo official, but a Lenovo customer. I created the list to aggregate all available information about the (upcoming) FW updates to be able to anticipate when and if updates will be made available to a particular laptop series. However, I think the only educated guess one can alreday make is that updates will be published on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays between 5am and 10am UTC. Further, I only listed laptops which are supported by the Linux Vendor Firmware Service.

@MarkRHPearson

It's a nice clear list (and I will probably hijack it once I know what the full details are :))

Please feel free to do so.

The P53 seems to be not supported through LVFS. However, here is the status for the P52:

ThinkPad P52

> Fixed: NO

> Last FW update: 2019-09-24 09:46:31

> LVFS Link

Since I am - as expected - no longer able to edit the list, I will post an updated version as soon as there are major changes. Then I will also merge the P52 into the list.

Further it would be good, if one could provide a short / simple BASH script to test if a Laptop is affected by the bug. Something that fully utilizes CPU for a minute or so, checks dmesg for "cpu clock throttled" messages and logs temperature as well as CPU frequency. Just to avoid that unaffacted models get falsely reported to be affected.
