Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

even under windows it starts power throttling after a while... my cTDP drops to 13W. My temps are in 70-80s range while not throttled (PL1, PL2)

no, it does not help (i'm on 1.15, can reach 4.2ghz but it immediately throttles and always tries to keep aroud 75C)

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

Ok, thank you for reporting your test results.
There seems to be a workaround: https://github.com/erpalma/lenovo-throttling-fix
I haven't tried it yet, but it looks promising. Is anyone here who has tried it and can report his experience with this script?

In any case, a big thank you to the enthusiastic individual who took the time to develop this script!

This is such a great piece of hardware - it's just sad that nowadays quite a lot of effort seems to be necessary to get a new Thinkpad to work satisfactorily with anything but Windows (which is not an option for me).

Actually that repo is mine Smiley Wink I'm using that script since I wrote it without any issue!

Wow, that's great! Thanks for opensourcing it :-)
Are there any requirement in terms of supported Linux distros? I'd like to use it in Ubuntu 18.04.
What would be the recommended way to uninstall it?

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

After using erpalma's python script...I'm not impressed with performance. I don't think it's all lenovo's fault.

I have a laptop from a few years back and without messing with anything it still compiles mesa faster than my x1 carbon with tweaks
12min without tweaks

10.5min with cpufreq set to performance

8.5min with erpalma's python
^8650u
7min with a 4810mq (also 4core/8thread, -.- then they quit and made dual core for half a decade, why?)

i feel kinda robbed...

Huge thanks to @erpalma for the work on this issue! Priceless.

@Lenovo: please keep ThinkPad's reputation of good Linux compatibility up!

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

Hmmm... That's strange. On my T480s (8550u) with Gentoo:

media-libs/mesa-18.0.2 -> merge time: 2 minutes and 57 seconds.

This includes download + compile + install phases. I have almost the same performance of my desktop i7 6700 in multicore!

Re: [X1C6/T480s] low cTDP and trip temperature in Linux

hm, what's your use flags/emerge -pv ?

(see that i'm using 17.3.9, 18 i think compiles faster so that's 1 thing. also use tmpfs for /var/tmp/portage)
