I agree with Twyx, we're waiting and we expect to be taken into account and be informed

Re: Yoga 900-13ISK2 - BIOS update for setting RAID mode for missing hard drive on linux install

Gather 'round and let me tell you my tale of woe.

I posted on this forum much earlier, expressing that I planned on looking to a bios mod forum to fix this issue that Lenovo has created, I regret to inform all that I do not have good news. The bios chip itself a low profile chip, unable to be clipped onto by any standard bios dumping clip. The chip also seems to be configured such that the board draws the HOLD pin to an active low state, meaning that even if we could secure onto the low profile chip, data still might be impossible to get to without desoldering the chip all together, dumping, modifying, and rewriting all before reinstalling the chip to the computer. Of course, this is still an option for those desperate enough to give it a try, but this is not the widespread solution we had hoped for. Sadly, it seems that we have to wait and pray that Lenovo will sober up and realize the mistake they have made.

Honestly, for those waiting for a fix, your wait may be a futile exercise!

I sold my 900-13ISK2 3 months ago and glad I did!

I suspect (possibly) that the SSD is permanently configured as RAID-0

(perhaps as 2 x 256Gb disk arrays) to achieve the phenomenal r/w speeds we are

seeing on this machine.

If that is the case, I doubt Lenovo would alter (or reveal) that in any way.

Sorry folks!

I smell a conspiracy with Microsoft here.  It would be great if someone will reach out to tech blogs with this shame story.

In that case, would it be possible to replace the SSD?

Or is that also soldered to the board?

The drive isn't secured with more than a screw, but I'm not sure how the drive could be replaced, the controller itself is set to RAID.

Yes, it's possible. There is a video for 900s on YouTube. But you will not get Linux and only pcie ssd are working (no sata ahci ssd)

I hope I will get my bios programmer soon from China, because I don't expect anything from lenovo. I feel lenovo only will react if there is real publicity (like a big tech blog with interview)

It's NOT the SSD, it's the controller and it's set to RAID.

Nothing you can do, unless the BIOS switch is available.

@Bownairo, can you post a pic of the BIOS chip on the motherboard?

I don't have a picture of the chip, but the second chip on this page is the chip in the laptop. There aren't any (large) contacts on the chip, but the pads on the board extend far enough to be tested with a multimeter, which is how I found the bad news. In order to bypass the HOLD pin, normally people would sever it from the board entirely in order to dump the BIOS. This isn't possible due to the nature of the chip, without removing it.
