Well, that's really the $10,000 question. How do you use your laptop?

If you use it in a way where it hardly ever gets to go into deep idle, then it won't affect you as much. If you're constantly watching videos, running Spotify, etc., then it's not going to be in deep sleep, _especially_ if you hardly ever let the screen turn off. So most people are not going to be in deep idle too often.

The fact that multiple people with Skylake don't notice much of a difference in battery life tells me that maybe the hypothetical "couple of hours" difference without Intel's power management policy might not be the case here.

I'm assuming you are talking about the Change petition to Lenovo to quit blocking Linux in the BIOS.

I've read it and it just politely asks Lenovo to change two lines of BIOS code so that the Linux blocking is removed.

I guessthat Lenovo doesn't want another embarrassment if the petition takes off, I'm sure. They were hoping this week's news would be all puff pieces about the new Yogas and now they have to deal with this instead.

I went ahead and added a link on all of my Reddit posts about Lenovo and made a new Reddit post about the petition. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and have a nice day.

I went ahead and took some screen grabs in case anything changes, so I can further document what's going on here.

I got a question from a Reddit user about whether the X1 is similarly affected. Does anyone know?

I replied:

I'm not sure as I don't own one. All of Lenovo's recent and upcoming products are suspect though, in my opinion.

In their press release, they didn't express any interest in fixing the problem, so the BIOS in their upcoming products are almost certainly going to be perverted in the same way.

I posted Lenovo's customer service number and how to get directly to an agent in my Reddit threads so that they can get feedback from their valued customers.

Lenovo Customer Service 800-565-3344

Press 2 for all other models and then wait through the recording and press 1 for laptops.

I know that a company that prides itself on excellent customer service would love the opportunity to gain the feedback and insight of the communities that they serve.

That's right - it was moved out of sight.

Anyone else notice they aren't getting notifications anymore for this thread?

I used to get emails every time someone posted here. About three or four days ago, somehow that stopped happening.

I'm still getting email updates for every other thread that I've posted in, and I don't recall "unsubscribing" to this one.

Hm, weird...

They also aren't showing up here anymore either (badge count 0, but plenty of new posts):
