Re: Yoga 900-13ISK2 - BIOS update for setting RAID mode for missing hard drive on linux install

There was nothing wrong, impolite or not nice with the post that just got censored.

All it did was to mention the petition created at Change.

I'm still getting notifications though.

The wonders of Window's power management: I left my laptop closed this morning at 8 AM at my room, unplugged and with more that 50%. At 10PM I found it got the batery exhausted... All my open applications lost.  Really, really good Windows support.

Same problem on mine. You can't just shut the lid or you come back and your battery is drained. You have to shut it down. Poor engineering work. I'm not surprised that you can't install Linux.

According to BaronHK's Reddit article, the mods were modifying and removing comments pretty often. After taking some time to read through them, it looks like they've been doing it a lot.

Re: Yoga 900-13ISK2 - BIOS update for setting RAID mode for missing hard drive on linux install

I made my decision and I've had my Yoga for too long to do anything about this at this point other than get stuck with Windows for maybe 5 years until I buy a new laptop, from a vendor that supports Linux.

As I am an IT professional, I feel deeply embarrassed by this decision. I'll probably buy a CF card or something to run Fedora and tape over the branding on my laptop so I'm not running around giving people the idea that it supports Linux well. We're going to have to look into our long term purchasing and support contracts for our data centers.

Lenovo stock is down by almost half this year. No doubts such scandals will only make the situation worse for them.

It's been trending downward in recent trading too. I'm wondering if the idea that they just upset people who make purchasing decisions has started to sink in. I'd be more worried about my portfolio except it's a mix of proven performers, all domestic. The international market is moribund and I want no part of it. It might even help since customers that one company tells to go away and stop bothering them usually do business with companies that appreciate them.

The net profit improvement last quarter was a one-off event due to "efficiency improvements" which is bean counter speak which usually means layoffs and shutdowns of divisions. It's like that old Looney Toons episode where Daffy Duck dives into a pool of dynamite and Bugs Bunny says it was a neat trick, to which Daffy replied "But I could only do it once.".

They need to listen to Sam Walton, who said in his book, "There is only one boss-the customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else."

I wish I could pick and choose but we have an index fund to keep management overhead low, so you have to take more lemons than it's worth to go international. :P

I wish there was a way for me to be notified when a solution is found in this forum. Right now, every time I see an update in email, I click through to this forum to see if there is a solution, only to find that there is none yet. Is this how the forum software is supposed to work?
