Re: Yoga 900 - BIOS update for setting RAID mode for missing hard drive on linux install

Yes, that is how the forum software works. Additionally, Lenovo has marked the issue as solved, so according to Lenovo, your solution is already here, which apparently means that the solution is to warn everyone you know.

Unfortunately, I think you're right. Lenovo's official solution is it's broken and they will never fix it. Lenovo now means "not good for Linux". I hope other people will find out before they buy one.

I think Lenovo is forgetting something: Linux users are, most of the time, people who love working with PCs, learning its inner workings, and, most importantly, people who are reached by others when they have trouble with their computers.

In short: Our advice to other users matters.

Most likely we're going to be true to the people who ask our advice.  We will tell them that this laptop has great hardward.  But we'll also tell them that Windows 10 is buggy, and that there's no way to install other version of Windows (if they're comfortable with it) in this laptop.

Being forced to use Windows now, I can actually show them a very annoying bug, which I'm able to reproduce most of the time.

Lenovo doesn't realise that they are loosing valuable customers, not for what they buy, but for what they would funnel into its sale pipeline.

HI lenovo.

After exploring the issue further I understand that you claim that the RAID drivers are the new direction of the pc world, and you lead it. Good for you! Now can you please provide Linux community with the driver specifications so it could develop a proper driver?

Lenovo would have to work with Intel to deliver specifications -- in all honesty, the BIOS update is the easiest thing they could do.

Not sure why this is marked solved. A bunch of people can't use the machines they purchased from you in the way they intended to. That is the very definition of not solved, unless Lenovo is waiving the restock fees now?

ANYWAY. It turns out that the technical problem is Intel's doing. http://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/44694.html

I don't know why Lenovo isn't working this by either asking for driver support or specifiying Linux support when they buy from Intel? It seems like they would have some pull with Intel and the most to lose customer-wise.
