Re: Yoga 900-13ISK2 - BIOS update for setting RAID mode for missing hard drive on linux install

2016-10-27, 14:54 PM

In response to customer requests for a BIOS that allows Linux to be installed on Yoga 900 and Ideapad 710s models, Lenovo has started releasing new BIOS.

For a complete list of models receiving these BIOS, please read this Knowledge Base article: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-and-Ideapad-710S-Linux-Only-BIOS/ta-p/3466850

Has anyone succeeded to install this?

I get a "The version of ROM file is not newer than that of BIOS." even though the version seems newer.

Current: 2UCN05WW, New: 2UCN10T.

What about other OS? For example win 7. Can it be installed as well?

Yep I installed it just fine. As soon as i ran the program it immeadiately flashed the bios. You maybe enable bios backflash in your bios settings first and then try again.

Has anyone successfully used this new BIOS to dualboot the existing Win 10 and Ubuntu?

Nice one guys and girls, thanks very much for making this happen.

I'm also keen to know if I will be able to set up a dual boot using this BIOS, keeping my existing Win10 installation as it is.

It has been said that this BIOS is not suitable for Windows installations, is that because the existing Win10 installation is at risk from the BIOS update itself, or just when the user chooses to change the RAID/AHCI setting? For example, if I install the update and switch off RAID, I don't expect to see Windows but if I switch it back on, will Windows continue to work as normal? If this is the case I would like to have a go at making it dual boot, following @rijesh's instructions.

SO right now your windows 10 installation is expecting a RAID device and has RAID drivers installed. The SATA drivers have not ever been initialized. Only after you switch modes to AHCI will Windows 10 not boot up.

So you can flash the BIOS and continue using windows without enterning the BIOS settings. Once you enter and change to AHCI will windows stop working. If you switch back to RAID windows will work again.

FYI if you run automatic recovery or boot into safe mode, the OS loads base drivers. In our case it loads the default SATA drivers. The OS then remembers that and future boots are normal.

I get this error as well. When I go to look for a previous version in order to back flash and get around the version check, I see no other bioses to use for that.
