x121e - Control indicator led with thinkpad_acpi

Hello,

following:

I want to change the on/off-state of my indicator led with the linux (ubuntu) module thinkpad_acpi.

I tried the following but it didn't work:

root@thinkbook:/proc/acpi/ibm# for ((i=0;i<=15;i++)); do echo "$i off" > led; done
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

Waiting for the led to change... Then:

root@thinkbook:/proc/acpi/ibm# for ((i=0;i<=15;i++)); do echo "$i on" > led; done
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
bash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted
root@thinkbook:/proc/acpi/ibm#

Can i change the led indicators state with thinkpad_acpi or other any module/trick on linux or is this only a dream?

Maybe try LED control under /sys?

echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds/tpacpi::thinklight/brightness
echo 0 > /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds/tpacpi::thinklight/brightness

Re: x121e - Control indicator led with thinkpad_acpi

Does not work because there is no file called "/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds/tpacpi::thinklight/brightness"

root@thinkbook:/home/fusl/Videos# echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds/tpacpi::thinklight/brightness
bash: /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds/tpacpi::thinklight/brightness: No such file or directory
root@thinkbook:/home/fusl/Videos# ls /sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds/
tpacpi:Smiley Tongueower  tpacpi::standby  tpacpi::thinkvantage
root@thinkbook:/home/fusl/Videos#

Re: x121e - Control indicator led with thinkpad_acpi

sorry, i can't offer any linux help as i'm a complete novice with it.

you may want to post your question (or ask a mod to move this thread) in the community's Linux area:

Re: x121e - Control indicator led with thinkpad_acpi

Next try...

fusl@thinkbook:~$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/thinkpad_acpi.conf
options thinkpad_acpi experimental=1 fan_control=1 brightness_enable=1 volume_control=1

root@thinkbook:/proc/acpi/ibm# for i in $(seq 0 15)
> do
> echo -n $i off
> echo $i off > led
> echo
> done
0 off
1 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

2 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

3 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

4 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

5 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

6 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

7 off
8 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

9 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

10 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

11 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

12 off
13 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

14 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

15 offbash: echo: write error: Operation not permitted

Still the light is on.

Also i tried this:

root@thinkbook:/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds# ls
tpacpi::power  tpacpi::standby  tpacpi::thinkvantage
root@thinkbook:/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds# ls -l tpacpi\:\:*/brightness
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Aug 18 20:30 tpacpi::power/brightness
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Aug 18 20:30 tpacpi::standby/brightness
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Aug 18 20:31 tpacpi::thinkvantage/brightness
root@thinkbook:/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds# cat tpacpi\:\:*/brightness
0
0
0
root@thinkbook:/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/leds# for i in tpacpi\:\:*/brightness
> do
> echo 1 > $i
> done

But the light indicator still does not change.

Hopefully i get some help now.

Re: x121e - Control indicator led with thinkpad_acpi

I have the exact same model and unfortunately the exact same problem. Tried everything that you tried with the same results. Running Xubuntu 12.10.

Do you have any updates?

PS: controlling the /proc/acpi/ibm/beep works fine in contrast to the leds :/

And we're back...

Move delayed but still coming
