Re: Ideaphone P780 and Android 4.4 Kit Kat

Hi Sanjubora,

I am sorry but I am not aware of any news regarding this. I got rid of that piece of crap (albeit with an excellent battery) two weeks ago. I returned it to Lenovo.

Thanks!

Official Lenovo P780 Kit Kat ROW now available OTA. You must be on S124 firmware and not removed/changed any of the Google apps so the OTA works. The new firmnware version is P780_ROW_S220_140722 (722MB).

PC FLash available at http://lenovo-forums.ru/topic/7339-%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%BE%D1%88%D0%B8%D0%B2%D0%BA%D0%B0-lenovo-p780-kitkat-p780-s124-to-p780i-s220-140722/.

Re: Ideaphone P780 and Android 4.4 Kit Kat

I came across the update saying kitkat update is now available. Is there anyone who has tested this update ?

I understand that some users are facing issue with camera. The camera auto-focus is not working and giving blur images. Another review that has problem with outgoing mic / sound. Works fine with speaker.

Does it support any additional font like Gujrati ?

Is there any way to backup firmware from my device ? such that I can restore it again to Jelly Bean if required.

Some pages also say that we must be on S123 firmware and not S124 else it may result in soft brick.. I'm on S124. So, how to downgrade ?

Can anyone validate all yhis please ?

Any other updates on battery etc ? thanks,

Unsure about camera, some people are having problems with it taking blurry pictures, others report that the camera app doesn't even start.

Don't know about any additional font support either.

You can flash the firmware back to Jellybean 4.2 if you don't like KitKat, you need the updated flash tool, see for http://lenovo-forums.ru/topic/7339-%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%BE%D1%88%D0%B8%D0%B2%D0%BA%D0%B0-lenovo-p780-kitkat-p780-s124-to-p780i-s220-140722/ more details (use Google translate)

You must be on S124 to update to KitKat and ensure you haven't removed any of the Google apps or changed the base configuration. The OTA update will only work on stock S124 but you can update to KitKat using the flash tool linked above if you don't want to OTA update.

Regarding battery, KitKat has a bug on 4.4.2 that causes a battery drain that has been widely reported with other phones too (e.g. Galaxy, Note etc). Don't think it is an issue on the P780 though.

Re: Ideaphone P780 and Android 4.4 Kit Kat

i updated to kit kat day before yesterday.. around 720 mb update

- camera is working fine (after update you can also install google camera.. i did.. its lens blur effects are good)
- no unsual battery drain
- outgoing mic / sound is all good working same as before

i lost the app data.. could not restore it though i took a backup.. so i lost all my apps

PROBLEMS WHICH I NOTICED
- menu option is gone.. all app icons are on home screen.. like iphones. i dont like it this way but still i am ok with.
- problem is you cannot arrange app icons.. there is no option to sort it alphabetically. so i am using other launchers as a solution but i find lenovo launcher to be better.. only if it had option to sort apps.
- i noticed its recording my calls.. i dont have call recorder.. but after update the phone is recording the calls automatically.

*no idea about gujrati support
*i am not sure about which firmware i had.. but i am pretty sure it was the latest one (one which solved the issue of not showing balance after calls)

-ANYONE TRIED ART RUNTIME ON P780  ?
-ANYONE FOUND AN OPTION TO SORT APPS IN THE ORIGINAL LENOVO LAUNCHER ON KIT KAT 4.4.2 ?

Hi,

I have updated my Lenovo P780 with Kitkat android version 4.4.2 today morning (Approx. 700 MB). All the apps are working fine with respect to android except my camera.

When i click the camera icon, phone pops up a Tip saying "Unable to connect to the camera". Once i press "OK" phone moves back to home screen. I have tried even using picsart app but found the same problem. How should i fix it? Kindly request your support on the same.

Regards,

Kiran Kumar

Re: Ideaphone P780 and Android 4.4 Kit Kat

I have done the repartion of my lenovo p780 and the phone was working well.

As now new upgrade to Kitkat 4.4 is available, but i am not able to upgrade.

The new version have been downloaded by system update, but when the update now is requested the phone gets switched off & then on in recovery mode and we get command "E: Cant mount/sdcard2/googleota/update.zip. installation Aborted."

Kindly suggest how to upgrade to Kikkat 4.4
