Re: LENOVO P780 PROBLEMS

2013-11-12, 7:11 AM

Hi Garytanyh,

Thanks  for the infomation. I am having the issue with [Tata Docomo 3g].  Let me try with some other operator and update.

I tried with bsnl 3g and it worked fine (eventhough it was on roaming). Time to move to bsnl 3g.

Just to let you know. I have not faced any blue tooth headset / speaker problems with Vodafone 3G ... have used Jabra, Plantronics and Sony Ericsson bluetooth devices. All are working perfectly fine.

Hello,

My Vodafone connection is postpaid. I just tried a prepaid SIM on Slot 2 and PUSH notification did not work - this is after I turned on the feature in the SIM management section.

Having said that, I think PUSH Notification was working when I was roaming intenational on the local prepaid SIM connection, Shall be able to confirm that 100% next week when I am traveling again.

Regards

Re: LENOVO P780 PROBLEMS

2013-11-12, 13:58 PM

I bought this phone just few days ago,

Android: 4.2.1

baseband: p780.v20, 2013/07/31 10:51

Build number: p780_row_s119_130930

Once i powered on this phone is, the first time i notice is, this phone is very poor is software features compared to samsung. Since im using samsung Galaxy Wonder & S3 Mini before, i know in Jelly Bean, we can show the battery usage in percentage, but in settings menu, i even can't find "battery" menu for just tick the option??? I ended notice it can show using lenovo power management, with round circle, but not the same as ordinary Jelly Bean show on others phone.

Also the the theme is so poor with grey menu, come on Lenovo, you can do this better don't you???

The storage divided into Internal and Built-In, which i found that Internal storage store the instaled app and running out of storage VERY FAST, since when first time use, its only 700MB+

Others bugging thing is i can't copy contact number when i long press the contact name, there is no option to "COPY" contact number which is very-very important...

I hope LENOVO will update the software soon with newer ANDROID (KITKAT) and fix the bug also improve the UI settings .. :((

Re: LENOVO P780 PROBLEMS

P780 has less bloarware compared to Samsung. I was using SGGD and while Touchwiz is a great launcher and user environment, the overheads are high and overwhelm the limited resources on a mid range phone with 1GB Ram. It is great on S4 and N3 but those are in a different price range.

I like the way Lenovo has integrated the power management and it works very well. Yes. The SIM management in Lenovo is very basic compared to Samsung and it does not support dynamic 2G /3G SIM may management.- but I am happy with the benefits of the P780 which is outstanding battery life.

I have the newer 8GB version so no issue with 122 Apps loaded. Also. The SD card can be swapped for internal memory so that also helps.

In summary,  a great battery life with good enough user experience at a competitive price point.

Re: LENOVO P780 PROBLEMS

I found another annoying BUG again, when saving contact number from dialer, i must remove the "-" sign, but when my friend call me my with that saved number, it will shown +xxx-xxxx-xxx (add dash and area code) so it will not pop-up the caller name...

Also there is no option to merge contact with google account, all saved number must be save carefully to prevent lost cause i prefer save to google rather than my phone

BAD, BAD, BAD, please fix it, fix it fix it  :smileymad:

Re: LENOVO P780 PROBLEMS

2013-11-12, 17:41 PM

Yes I have the same issue with my brand new Lenovo P780. Actually more than 1 problems:

1. Network keeps cutting off .. however at the same location with the same network provider (Vodafone and MTNL - Mumbai) and same SIM card when inserted in my Gionee G1 GPAD the network is awesome and 3G network is constant. With the P780 the 3G keeps switching to EDGE and back, also I get just 2 bars of network when indoors. The connection constantly times out and the downloads break.

2. Sound of caller is very low, this is not a network service provider related issue as this happens with all service providers. I have tried with Reliance GSM, Airtel, Vodafone, MTNL and IDEA. The have actually guess what the caller said. When connected to my bluetooth handsfree the sound clarity is superb and audible.

3. The PUSH notifications do not work however in my case this is awesome else I was getting some crazy notifications from my service provide inspite of having activated FULL DND ..

4. While in the Video Player (default) of the phone on clicking on "Brightness" I am unable to slide the notch upwards. It takes several failed attempts to increase the brightness however my MX Player Pro works awesome in this case. But I can live with it.

5. The Lenovo Power Saver sux royally, there is no way to program it to open the connection in intervals to receive emails and whatsapp messages. Either it is a Full cut or a Full open connection. I prefer to use the 2x Battery saver (paid version) instead with intervals to start the 3G service every 5-10 mins to get work done.

Otherwise this phone is the best in the market so far. I have owned Samsungs (Galaxy Y and ACE), Karbonns (A9+ and A1), Micromax (A110 and A116 HD), Videocon (A20 and A30), Gionee G1 GPAD (present other phone) and also have a Galaxy Grand (which my father now uses).

The lenovo beats them all hollow if I do not consider the above problems.

Can someone at Lenovo please help me ?? I have contacted the Lenovo tech support helpline and they guided me to the HCL service center in Mumbai saying that I will get a DOA from them and then I have to give it to my dealer who will replace the phone. But its a pity that I am unable to use this fantastic phone.

Seems like a problem here. The network and sound quality is quite good on mine. Did you do a firmware upgrade? From under settings?

Are you getting broadcast messages from the operator? Under Messaging>Cell broadcast settings (should be unchekced for both SIMs). Otherwise you do get weird messages, yes
