Re: Lenovo P1m (P1ma40) - Permanent Malware com.google.camera.fun.apk?

2016-06-11, 4:34 AM

I have exactly the same code on my phone

P1ma40_USR_S006_1510201530_MP3V2_16G_TRUE_TH

Malwarebytes reports it as Malware and its true.

I get porn links constantly sent to my phone, even when I didn't use it for 1 week to see if a hard reset helped. It either wants to download APPS or sends links to websites.

It is impossible to explain this problem with the Thai staff at True (I am not Thai) and all they want to do is reset the phone. Upon resetting it, I download Malwarebytes and straight away the virus is there.

I really hope you can find a solution, because if its being installed at manufacturer or whoever Flashes the phone - something seriously needs to be done.

Can you imagine if a child had this phone?

@Brit90,

Understood. Rest assured we are on top of this right now and the team have already been contacted.

Thanks.

Re: Lenovo P1m (P1ma40) - Permanent Malware com.google.camera.fun.apk?

Hi,

I have this problem as well. It always download the game and porn apps. In Thailand rightnow, it is a big talk of the town in the largest web site for Thai; [admin edit; link removed] I did factory reset several times but it didn't work. It downloaded the porn app before I accessed my google account. It is probably from ROM modified by TRUE or LENOVO. For me, I disable this app "com.google.camera.fun.apk" and download the "malwarebytes Anti-malware" to frequently scanning, although it cannot  eliminate from my phone.

Hope this will help you. And Lenovo Team pls. solve this problem using OTA ASP.

Thank you

Hi,

Thats exactly what I have had to do.

Malwarebytes is the only one that recognises it has a problem. All the others I have tried don't see it.

I don't even use the phone and it downloads porn constantly.

Very disturbing and the staff at True are absolutely clueless. Trying to explain to them what's happening. Blaming me for downloading things when I obviously have not.

regards

Is there any update?

I started this thread a month back, and there seems to be little information on the progress.

It was known problem on ROW S024 firmware. There is the com.google.camera.fun malware straight from the company firmware. The update (regular one) doesnt apply because the malware sits in the system and changed it. So Lenovo was forced to release S027 update as the whole firmware image (1.3 GB). Then the problem was gone.

You have three options:

1- root your phone and use root explorer and delete the apk by yourself.

2- wait for the official update that will sove this problem.

3- try to download ant flash the ROW full image of S029 (latest official firmware) or S027. This can be tricky, because i dont know if your phone version has some diferences (modem, lte bands etc.)

Hi,

There is good news for p1m problem. Lenovo Thailand has annouced the update firmware to solve this problem on Tue 21 June. They suggest on that day will update the newest version and security-system scanning. I hope this update will solve this problem.  I am so tried to face with. I did't dare to install any banking app. I don't know my information will be fishing to somewhere. 8(

If Lenovo has fixed the problem, how come the people on this forum who work for Lenovo haven't said anything on this thread?

I will check to see if Lenovo has done an update - but it shows that their quality control is extremely bad and this will probably be the last lenovo product I will ever buy (and it was my first).

If the quality control is this bad, then how can you trust this company?

Imagine if Apple allowed really lax security.

Re: Lenovo P1m (P1ma40) - Permanent Malware com.google.camera.fun.apk?

2016-09-10, 12:00 PM

I just bought the same phone in August 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for my wife with version info P1ma40_USR_S029_1602261830_MP3V2_16G_ROW_MY. I had the same problem.

At first, I thought my wife accidentally visited malicious website using that phone and got the phone infected with malware. Then I did the Factory Data Reset thru the Setting in the phone. After the phone restarted again, less than 5 minutes all kind pop-up appeared and there was also 'Hot Girls' application already installed on desktop.

I did the hard factory reset by clicking volume down + power button. After it restarted, the same thing happen. I really frustrated with this model since there is no update for this problem. Where as my Lenovo P780 never gave any problem since I bought.
