Re: Lenovo vibe p1 nougat update?

2017-05-02, 17:52 PM

Hi,

It seems Lenovo forgot again the customers :) The good news is there are plenty of custom roms available on xda-developers and some of them are based on the latest nougat. Is there anyone here already tried some? I'm struggling with some bootloader install issue right now, but I intend to try some of them if it is stable enough for daily use

Thanks

,

I have tried AoSPExtended Rom version V4.1. It is very stable and works perfectly for most of the part. You won't be facing any issue with that rom. You can see the desciption of this video for Bugs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSssbuXaB7g&list=PLCVdrEhk2PyaoDv9629N223PxryW4a7K0 .

Most of the bugs are resolved in latest update of this rom . Let me know if you need any help. (Y)

Thanks for the response. I'm trying to use this guide

https://forum.xda-developers.com/vibe-p1/how-to/lenovo-vibe-p1-a42-c72-root-ready-t3533693

to get a working twrp on my phone, but it seems it is not working in my environment,  after installing the driver and booting the phone as it is requested, there is no Qualcomm serial port. I've tried this on two machines (both win10/64bit) with two different cables, using usb2 and usb3 port and disabled driver signature verification and still nothing... I've also tried to use some other guides from xda developer to get a working compatible bootloader (twrp or cm) but I stuck at this point...

do you have any idea? obviously, I'm in constant discussions with the guys in XDA developer forums

Thanks

Hey,  i rooted my p1a42 using these steps and didn't face any issue.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/vibe-p1/development/lenovo-vibe-p1-stock-rom-custom-rom-t3306484

Try this,

after installing lenovo usb drivers and qfil in your system, switch off your phone. open QFIL in laptop, you will see no port selected. Then keep volume up key on phone pressed and connect to computer/laptop. you should feel vibration. then you wait for few seconds, you can see QFIL, no port should change to some other value. it need not be qualcomm. if a driver is automatically detected that means you can start flashing the rooted rom.

It is interesting. It is working now. I don't really want to have the stock rom + twrp but some custom one and root of course. Is there any guide for that? I never used qfil earlier, so this patching with some xml sounds a bit crazy :) Do I need that for any other custom rom?

If you need a custom rim, you need to have a custom recovery installed . So flash the rooted stock ROM, then follow steps from XDA to install a custom recovery either TWRP or CWM . After installing custom recovery, you can use that to install any custom rim you like.. Hope it helps..

But I will say this, battery backup will be reduced like anything on custom rom. Still it will be better that other phones. But still it won't be as good as the stock ROM. But you can enjoy a very smooth experience of nougat update and the UI is simply awesome with custom roms.

that's a useful info since one of the main reason I want to migrate to custom is to get rid of bloatware and having better battery times, so maybe it is worth to wait for some official upgrade path or simply get rid of this phone :)
