Re: Lenovo P2a42 - Nougat upgrade

2017-06-09, 13:57 PM

I've just signed up to say that I have been using the ROW rom on my Three UK P2 and I have had no problems whatsoever.

I installed it it following the instructions on here, then did a factory reset and all good

I just registered to say I also upgraded my Three UK P2 to the Lenovo ROW Nougat rom two weeks ago and the phone works perfectly. Battery life seems about the same as Marshmallow and I'm pleased.

Re: Requesting Nougat 7.1.2 Update

I am not much concerned about Nougat 7.1.2, but I am definitely concerned about Android O 8.0.0.

Because if Lenovo pushes Android O upgrade for this phone then this will be a big win because after that any further upgrade will be easy.

How it's possible? The answer lies in the fact that Android O maintains two partitions: one for OS and the another one for vendor specific drivers. So, any OS upgrade can be managed separately cause it is no longer dependent on the vendors to create drivers that can be integrated with the new OS.

So, I am looking for Android O upgrade.

Recommending reset is fine but stating one "must reset" is misleading. I agree that it's far cleaner to start afresh after any major OS upgrade and for technical minded people this is normally what they do be default however most users would rather not have to spend hours setting up their device again. My experience - as someone who does tend to start factory reset more often than not - this upgrade has been pretty seamless and thus far without issue.

The Moto Z Play got the Android 7.1.1 Update yesterday. The device launched at the same month, like our P2. (Nov. 2016)

So there is still hope, that we get at least Android 7.1.1 ...

I agree with Nobbysheep.

In this case I would only reset if I was having issues, which I'm not :)

I agree. Reset is not necessary. I just like a bit of spring cleaning :) And again, the worldwide ROM is working perfectly on my P2 from Three in UK.

Re: Lenovo P2a42 - Nougat upgrade

Hard reset or not is all depending on what 3rd party apps are installed in P2a42.

Some 3rd party apps will play nice after major OS upgrade. In this instance, P2a42 will be as stable as before OS upgrade.

I believe those having issues after upgrade to Nougat is mainly due to 3rd party apps which are not fully compatible with Nougat or the owner installs dodgy rouge apps outside from official Google PlayStore. This is the danger part of Android as user can simply download and install sketchy apps by "disabling" Android default security settings.

Initially, these dodgy/rouge/sketchy 3rd party apps are working well in Mellow but after immediately upgrade the OS to Nougat (while these apps are still in the 32GB internal storage), issue(s) happen immediately too...

3rd party launcher is also infamous to cause instability of smartphones...

As for my case, after OTA to S233_170404_ROW, I did not hard reset at all. The device works equally stable as in Mellow despite of having 15 3rd party apps (all are officially from Google PlayStore...).
