Access Connection Overwrites Saved Ports

2010-01-06, 18:30 PM

Access Connections 5.42 (Win 7 64bit) overwrites saved ports for two networks that use the same XXX.XXX.XXX IP address.

Network 1 - 192.168.1.XXX

Network 2 - 192.168.1.YYY

Whenever I connect to either Network 1 or Network 2, access connection "forgets" the saved port that identified Network 1 / Network 2. The affect is that Access Connections does not automatically select the correct network settings for these two networks.

This same behavior happened with the Win XP version of Access Connections as well on these two networks.

Does anyone know of a fix? Or if not, how to file a bug report witih Lenovo?

Cheers,

Are you using different physical ports for connecting to each network?

Depends how you define "physical" ports. The two networks have different routers, so the router MAC addresses will be different for each network.

If you mean something different by "physical" ports, please provide that detail.

The usual way... are you plugging the Ethernet cable from your laptop into a different physical connection port (i.e. wall sockets or whatever) for each network?

Yes -- actually the two networks are in two different states :smileyhappy:

If the IP sets are different (e.g, 10.XXX.XXX vs. 192.168.1), then Access Connection correctly remembers ports and automatically switches to the correct network. It's only when the IP sets are the same (e.g., 192.168.1) that Access Connection will only remember one port MAC address.
