Access Connections - gauge display missing in taskbar [Pictures!]

2010-10-26, 10:20 AM

Hi,

I've got problems with the gauge-display of Access Connections on my T400 running under Win7. Esp. when it comes to wireless connections this icon gives you a clue at first sight about connection quality.

Problem description: The gauge-display in the taskbar   Gauge-Display as admin-user is only displayed when logged in as a user with admin privileges.

When working as a normal (non-privileged) user I don't have this icon.

My System: T400, running under Win7 Enterprise, all drivers/software of Lenovo running at it's latest version. In terms of Access Connections: Version 5.72

Here's what I've checked/done already:

o) Taskbar settings - all icons displayed:

Taskbar settings

o) Settings of Access Connections (screenshots taken from a user with admin privileges):

Access-Connections - Settings

Access connections - notification-settings

Notification settings

Please note that I've explicitly turned on "Show Access Connections Gauge in task bar". Also the dialog box, on the top, says that these settings apply to all users of the computer.

However when displaying this same notification settings dialog box when running under a non-privileged userid everything is grayed out and the checkmark on "Show Access Connections Gauge in task bar" is missing:

Notification settings for non-privileged user

So I don't even have a way to set the "Show Access Connections Gauge in task bar" checkbox :smileymad:

o) De-installed and Re-installed Access Connections - no change :smileysad:

Has anybody out there seen this problem??

Any cure against this?

Thanks much in advance for your help!

I'm not seeing this problem. The settings are grayed out under a normal user, but the setting did not uncheck for me.

Might want to make sure the rest of your drivers and MS updates are current, since AC has a bunch of dependicies.

Use Lenovo UPdate and Drivers in Control Panel to run TVSU.

Hi,

Already did that - this was my first guess. Everything up2date as per the Lenovo Update.

I had this exact same problem with Access Connections 5.2 and Windows 7 (and have also had similar problems with Access Connections over the years) and it always boils down to updating the following and other drivers to the latest versions:

Power Manager

Wi-fi drivers

Ethernet drivers

Hotkey buttons and features

NOTE: Don't rely on the Auto Update Utility and always do it manually - sometimes uninstall Access Connections and re-install after appying these updates. I did it and the problem is gone after reboot.

Maybe some other driversalso  need updating depending on the version of Access Conections so read the readme which for AC 5.72 in this case is

NOTES

- Before installing ThinkVantage Access Connections, it is required to install
  the following software.

  [For ThinkPad SL300,SL400,SL400c,SL500,SL500c]
  - ThinkPad Power Management Driver for SL Series for Windows 7/Vista/XP
      version 1.44 or higher
  - Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000
      version 3.02.0000 or higher
  - ATK Hotkey Driver for Windows 7
      version 1.00.03.0 or higher.

  [For the other ThinkPad models]
  - ThinkPad Power Management Driver for Windows 98 SE/Me/2000/XP/Vista/7
      version 1.60 or higher
  - Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000
      version 3.02.0000 or higher.

- Update wireless LAN/WAN adapter software for each adapter, as follows.

This should fix it

Access Connections is a great utility though and I have been a happy Thinkpad user across about several laptops from the Edge, SL, T and X series.

Dunno what AMD has done with their quality recently though - I would recommend going the Intel route with the Edge Series.

The ergonomics on the Edge Series is very nice.
