Access Connections sending sms messages missing

2012-07-04, 2:54 AM

I have an x61 tablet which has a Vodaphone Sierra MC8775 3G WWAN card installed. I currently use Access Connections 5.85 for managing my networks. Reading the Access Connections user guide, I learned that I can send sms messages within Access Connections itself.  But when I go to Tools/Mobile Broadband, that functionality does not appear. Nor is there an tick box option to send sms in Tools/Global Settings.

Interestingly, if I access my WWAN using Vodaphone's proprietary software (Vodaphone mobile connect) I can send sms messages. It would be nice to do it within Access Connections since this is how my system is configured.

Am I missing something? Is there any Thinkpad updates I need to install? Can anyone with a Sierra MC8775 installed on their Thinkpad confirm that they can send SMS via Access Connections?

Try opening explorer and browse to Access Connection installation folder. Double click on 'SMS_Application.exe' and check if SMS application is launched and whether you can send/receive SMS or not. Can I know, which network's SIM card are you using, during your tests?

Hi Vijab,

I followed your suggestion but double clicking the SMS_Application.exe didn't launch anything or give me access to AC's sms program. The SIM card I am using is from Vodaphone Australia. As I mentioned previously, using Vodaphone's WWAN software, I have no problem sending and receiving sms messages so I'm baffled as to why I am unable to do it through Access Connections.

Update:

As a test, I uninstalled The Vodaphone proprietary software thinking there may be a conflict between it and Access Connections. This did not resolve the issue.

Next, I uninstalled Access Connections 5.85 and installed 5.72.  The reason I did this was because in the release notes of 5.72 it specifically states that it added support for SMS for AT&T, Vodafone, Telstra and Telecom New Zealand networks. This SMS feature supports only English.

But to no avail. I still can not send sms via Access Connections.

I would like to note to all that this is an ongoing problem and this forum started in 2009 - Really Lenovo this is utterly dissapointing as we're already in 2013 and we stil have the SAME PROBLEM.
