Active Protection System installer for the P52?

2021-07-17, 15:36 PM

Hi,

I have recently installed Windows 10 Enterprise on ThinkPad P52, however as this is not the Lenovo factory image it is missing a key driver, the active protection system driver which is needed for the smart cooling and protection for the hard drive installed.

According to https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Pre-Installed-Lenovo-Software/Active-Protection-System-installer-for-the-P52/td-p/4608064

On ThinkPad P52, APS is not a hardware node, so PnP doesn't install the driver automatically, like it would for ethernet (for example).  It needs an installer to create the device node in Device Manager.  So I grabbed the installer from the factory preload and ran it, then "Lenovo Active Protection System" shows up in Device Manager -> System Devices.  I'm not sure the reason why this driver/installer isn't posted on the support website.  I put it in my OneDrive here:  P52_APS.zip.  Unzip and then run ApsInst.exe as administrator.

Driver update software and Lenovo Vantage does not help as APS requires an installer to install, however Lenovo does not provide any drivers or installers for APS for the P52 on their website and I cannot find it anywhre else either. The only APS driver I could find on Lenovo's website was for the P51 and incompatible with the P52. Please could someone link the driver installer for active protection system for the P52. Thanks

The files attached were the required drivers.

Hi Pterygotus,

Thinking about this , perhaps you can consider the OEM image here in DDRS.

Hi Dbrix, Thanks for linking the recovery service but that does not solve my issue, I'm using Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC, I don't need to reinstall a new Windows image. I'm just looking for an installer to install the driver for Active Protection System on the P52.

What kind of drive is installed in your P52?

1 M.2 500GB Samsung SSD and 1 2.5" 1TB Seagate Hard Disk Drive

Obviously I do not need the APS for the SSD, however its rather important to have it given that most of my data will be stored on the HDD.
