Re: Announcing Password Manager 4 beta-testing program

CSS and old password manager (v3) are bundled together.  So uninstalling one means uninstalling the other as well.  There shouldn't be any ill effects by uninstalling CSS - several people from the beta test did exactly this and nobody reported any problems.  If you are worried about messing up your system, you can always take a backup and then make the changes (e.g. uninstall CSS and old pw manager, then install new pw manager).  If you don't like it, or if your system behaves in some unexpected way, then restore the backup.  This is good advice for anytime you add or remove software to your system.

Great! I'll do that. One more question: Can you import the password data from v3 to v4?

Yes.  You have to export the passwords from v3, uninstall CSS/v3, install v4, and then import.  Check out the doc included in the zip files of message #2 of this thread, all the upgrade information is in there.

Went ahead and deleted CSS/PM v3 then installed PM v4. Everything works as advertised:smileyhappy:

With CSS out of the way, I also successfully replaced R&R v4.31 with v4.5.

Great job, ThinkVantage team!!

Are passwords stored on disc or in the security chip?

Password manager has always stored passwords on the hard drive.  With the old version that is integrated with CSS, the passwords are encrypted by a key that comes from the chip (TPM).  With version 4, the passwords are encrypted by a key that comes from windows.

Do you mean by "the beta is dead" that beta testing is over? When is the final stable version coming?
