Re: COM+ error since install of power management 1.40

2008-09-30, 16:48 PM

@cfriese: I am neither running MSN Messenger nor Office Communicator. If you look closely at the error message, the CLSID described in the Microsoft knowledge base article (F3177D96-B9E9-42DE-AC32-5401CAB2D98A) is different from the one experienced by the users here (F6FE5592-FCBC-44AD-A836-D37F5085ED5B), indicating a different problem.

Power Manager version 1.45 is installed on my system now, and it really looks like the issue has been fixed: The PWMDBSVC service is running, MSDTC is still deactivated, but no warnings are written to the event log during logon, logoff or lock/unlock operations.

@marserm: Up to now, I do not experience shutdown issues of any kind, but then again, I did not have those with 1.40 as well. Your mileage may vary ...

Thanks Deniz - I did notice that the CLSID was different in the KB article but I wasn't sure if the two problems may be linked because I was having a strage issue with Office Communicator as well.

After installing 1.45 and rebooting I see the warnings/errors no longer show in eventviewer.  It appears 1.45 is the fix!

I have a x200 Xp Sp3 running Power Manager 1.43.  I'm seeing the COM+ errors as described in this thread but I don't see v1.45 on the lenovo downloads page.  Where can I get it?

Good news on the repairs made in 1.45.  I have the T60 with rev. 1.30b and from looking at the subsequent updates, I do not see any benefits that support an upgrade for this model.  However, in rev. 1.43, does anyone know what this fix is for:

(Fix) Corrected broken Web link.

You might as well upgrade to v1.45.  It seems to work fine with XP.

The broken link is probably the one on the Battery Information tab, for 'To learn about batteries for this computer, click here'.

I wish Lenovo would now finally fix the TrackPoint driver so that it works with Fast User Switching, on XP (not sure if it works okay on Vista).  I am still using v3.55 from July 2005.  At least it works though, and I updated the scroll applications information file (tp4table.dat) with the most recent version.

Jason404, thanks for pointing out where the link is. My link works in 1.30b and takes me to a web page with battery and power adapter options for my specific model, 8744. I will consider the upgrade. With all the issues I have had in the last siix months with bugs in Lenovo updates, I finally have my T60 working very well. I've learned the hard way that newer driver does not always equal better performance.
