I've installed Thin Installer and Update retreiver, but Update retreiver don't find latest package (who are on the RSS feed) :
- ThinkVantage Productivity Center Pack
- Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg)
- Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver

Why that ?!

Dear Zilla,

so, with the post next to yours you may see, what kind of questions will the supporters encounter as a result of SU being discontinued.

Poil, thats because the database Update Retriever is downloading from is not being updated after March 31. This is what I wrote earlier: "Will have to add the newest drivers after March 31 (including the failed download) one by one after running Thin Installer but to me it will still be saving time to use Thin Installer first." There is no way avoiding installing new drivers after March 31 one by one.

I installed Update Retriever/Thin Installer to help me when doing a clean install of Vista64 and as an afterthought also downloaded drivers as a backup if I have to use the recovery disks for doing a reset to factory settings.

ps I suspect Lenovo will be closing down the database Update Retreiver is downloading from in the immediate future so I wanted to have downloaded all to me relevant drivers before that happened.

I'm sorry to hear that Bill.  I'm an Engineering student and I work for the Engineering Computing Services at CSU here in California.

We are shocked.  We are going to hold of any future decisions with respect to Lenovo purchases.  Looking at alternatives as far as the business end goes.  As for the student angle; look into an Apple Macbook.  Make sure you buy the extended warranty. It's worth it.  We used to advice against Apples because some engineering software needed to be run on the Micro$soft platform; but, now that apple has the ability to dual boot XP and OSX you can  rest assured.

I personally own a Thinkpad T61P.  I used to  recommend Thinkpads to all faculty and incoming students that asked.  [Notice I said Thinkpads Which is  the business platform NOT the made for home platform; those are worthless and break easily just like Dells.]   As of April 1 2009 I no longer Recommend Thinkpads or Lenovo.

We had an engineering open house last Saturday and I think I must have sold a whole bunch of Computers for Apple [We get a student discount at the CSU system] I wish I could get a commission  for my efforts :).  Macbooks start at $800 and go up to $2500.  Buy the best one you can afford with the Extended warranty.  The Extended Warranty is Key, and yes I did buy the extended warranty for my T61P.  The reason I say buy the best one you can afford is Macs are not upgradeable.  Everything is soldered into the Mainboard.  No CPU upgrades are possible [RAM is upgradeable and cheap :) ]  If you buy one of the more expen$ive ones you most likely will not have to buy your Son another Laptop until he graduates.

Anyway. I digress.  In short , buy a Mac.

Absolutely agreed by majority of the users. Almost all users on this forum are experienced. If our majority decision is this, then I can very well anticipate the likings of users away from this forum

Well it never worked out for me.

Agreed. My whole family is one of such users.

Different solutions may work for diffferent people. But we are discussing solution for majority of people. And this is the voice of majority to BRING TVSU back!

Come on, guys... This is really not necessary. All this we can discuss in May and after. Until that time, just find the driver matrix site for your model, stuff it in the RSS reader and you're done. Honestly, there are not so many updates in one month's time and you also do not try to update your system everyday, do you ? You just peek in the directory from time to time to see what's new there, read some descriptions and decide. That's it. After 1-st of May we shall see what's next.

10 days ago, Mark started this thread recommending users read the notice about what Lenovo have done to TVSU.

Since then there has been utter silence from Mark, despite multiple posters directing questions to him.

I'm now left wondering if Mark has the courage to face us and answer our questions about what his company has done.
