Consistent Crashing of Modern.ImController.PluginHost.SettingsApp.exe

2018-08-06, 16:06 PM

For the past four days when powering the system on or restart and everytime interacting with the settings within Lenovo Vantage ver. 4.12.13.0 for Dolby Digitil Plus I get a logged report in Reliability Monitor of Windows 10 and a memory dump. It seems this started the day after EventMonitor.dll was updating as it shows Thursday, ‎August ‎2, ‎2018, ‏‎8:10:38 PM as being created.

Description

I have tried reinstalling Lenovo System Interface Foundation v1.1.16.0 but that didn't fix the issue.

So what should I do? I'm I the only one if not is Lenovo awear of the issue and planing a patch or update?

Edit: System is a IdeaCentre 710-25ISH running Win10 Home 64-Bit Ver. 1803 Build 17134.191

Here is a new plugin version that should fix the errors that are logged into the Reliability Monitor.  Would you please install it and let me know if these errors stop?

First, download these 2 files:

https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApXWjQB7_a1bhfZUTxl6B0mCFX9F_A

https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApXWjQB7_a1bhfZTm2ILq73uj1zq2Q

Then, from the folder where you downloaded these files, right-click on install_dolby_plugin.bat and select "Run as Administrator".  Check for any errors that appear on the screen, and then press a key to continue (as prompted).  Then, please reboot the computer and see if any new errors are logged to Reliability Monitor.

Yeah so, System Interface Foundation is not in Programs and Features (which I already knew but looked anyway) and uninstalled Vantage than tried to delete IMcontroller stuff but wouldn't let me said was still in use.

I am starting to think this has something to do with the adoption of and inclusion of Dolby Atmos on newer Lenovo systems and how Vantage is setup to interact with it/them?

Yup that inspired me and feel stupid wasn't thinking of doing it that way in the first place.

So I went redownloaded System Interface Foundation v1.1.16.0 to desktop than stopped Vantage and all ImControllers in Task Manager. Than went to moved ImController folders from Program File, Program File x86 and Program Data to a second drive ... so as to still have them if needed. Than ran the System Interface Foundation installer and after the restart found no crashes or memory dumps.

Hopefully stays that way.

Thank you sclexman for helping me sort that out.

Nope it's still ding it but to tired to do anything about right now.  :smileyfrustrated:

To be continued.

Edit: Okay so after the first reboot to finalise the install of System Interface Foundation v1.1.16.0 there was no issues but after an additional restart the PluginHost.SettingsApp.exe crashed with memory dump.

I guess the next step would be to uninstall Vantage again along with what I did yesterday?

But I feel it will not fix the issue.

:smileymad:

Edit2: All right I uninstalled Vantage restarted the system.

Than stopped all ImControllers in Task Manager than this time deleted ImController folders in Program File, Program File x86 and Program Data than restarted the system.

Ran the System Interface Foundation v1.1.16.0 installer restated to finalise the installation.

And the problem still exist.

Oddly though I can see Lenovo.Modern.ImController.PluginHost.SettingsApp.exe running in Task Manager under Details?

At this point I don't know what going on here or what else to do.

Think I should contact Lenovo support or just wait see if something happens that fixes the issue?

This issue seems to have stopped and must stem from an update received from Microsoft this morning. ?

Description
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: 9WZDNCRFJ4MV-E046963F.LENOVOCOMPANION

It looks like Lenovo removed the settings portion from Vantage to remedy the issue. And to tell you the truth I really never used it anyway so wouldn't miss it if they never put it back.

Edit: Just applied Update Tuseday's Windows update restarted the system and guess what ... IT'S STILL CRASHING! ?

Edit2: Hardware Settings within Vantage is still assessable from Health & Support Tips & Tricks under "Getting Started With Dolby Atmos" so was not completely removed? Lenovo should also release an updated System Interface Foundation.

Same here!

ThinkStation P320, 30BH000BGE, BIOS S06KT30A

Display adapters: NVIDIA Quadro P2000, Driver Version 23.21.13.9174

We have 3 identical P320, only one with this error.Error comes over night.

Updating drivers with systemupdate doesn't help.

Because of the audio related crash - maybe the monitor used as speaker over the graphics could be the problem?

I set it to internal realtek and keep observing now.

First error in event log:

Anwendung: Lenovo.Modern.ImController.PluginHost.SettingsApp.exe
Frameworkversion: v4.0.30319
Beschreibung: Der Prozess wurde aufgrund einer unbehandelten Ausnahme beendet.
Ausnahmeinformationen: System.AccessViolationException

   bei System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(System.Threading.ExecutionContext, System.Threading.ContextCallback, System.Object)
   bei System.Threading.ThreadHelper.ThreadStart()

and then:
