Nevermind. I found the control that determines what types of issues give notifications. i just turned off the notifications for Device Manager and the notifications no longer bother me. :)

I recently gave Lenovo Solution Center a second chance.  It was brief.

This software really is terribly written.  If it's installed onto a system where the users don't have admin rights, and UAC is on, the user is periodically prompted with a UAC box to elevate privelages.  In order for a user to enter the software they have to enter privelages.

This software in no way compares to what PC-Doctor/LTT used to do on a ThinkPad.  IMHO, this software was developed solely to save Lenovo money, not to improve the customer's experience with Lenovo products.

Thank you for your feedback.  I agree with your first point about UAC, and I can't explain why LSC was designed this way.  I can tell you that this issue is finally getting fixed in LSC 2.0 which is scheduled for release at the end of this year.

About your comparison to LTT...  What I remember about LTT is annoying pop-up "toast" messages advertising stuff to me, and an "inbox" feature that was nothing but spam.  So I don't miss that.  What I do miss is the advanced diagnostic capabilities that it had - and LSC isn't there yet.  We're getting there slowly, and more diag capabilities will be released soon.  Other than the advanced diags, I wonder what else you miss about LTT?

1) LSC requires administrator-level rights even to launch the program.  A User Account Control (UAC) prompt greets any user who is not an administrator.

2) LSC's background monitoring/tasks causes a non-administrator to see a UAC prompt at random intervals.  Incredibly annoying and also alarming to a user who never sees that prompt.

The above two points mean that LSC cannot be deployed in my SMB environment, whereas LTT was included in my system images before.  I'm actually still using LTT on T420 and earlier machines, as I had the installer downloaded before Lenovo removed it from the website.

LSC's diagnostics seem very limited compared to what LTT's PC-Doctor tested.  While Lenovo has phased out PC-Doctor, Dell is beginning to make more use of PC-Doctor diagnostics, even on consumer-focussed PC models.  I have had the LTT PC-Doctor detect very specific issues with a hard drive before, and I also used it quite often to do system burn-in testing by running the tests multiple times.  Why is Lenovo abandoning what is clearly an industry-leading tool set when your competitors are starting to use it more?

The messages are contained to LTT.  I think there used to be a separate program (Lenovo Message Center?) in the out-of-the-box ThinkPad installs which greatly added to the message popups, but I never install this in my images.

aside from being unable to retrieve warranty information since i've upgraded to the latest version (2.0.013), the UI becomes all black:

Lenovo Solution Center (LSC) 2.0.013 always alerts on Warranty Status!

2012-12-06, 16:19 PM

This version of LSC is always showing an alert on my Warranty Status, which still has literally years to run, with the error "Unable to get response from warranty server", and the Fix Options button does no good. A timely fix would be appreciated. Thank you.
