Lenovo Service Bridge error: Unable to bind to the underlying transport for [::]:50128.

2020-09-26, 3:27 AM

Hi!

I've had this issue for over a year:

Lenovo Service Bridge won't work. It starts and quickly shuts down. In Event Viewer, Windows Logs, System, you see:

"Unable to bind to the underlying transport for [::]:50128. The IP Listen-Only list may contain a reference to an interface which may not exist on this machine.  The data field contains the error number."

Source: HttpEvent, EventID 15005.

You see it repeated for port 50129 and 50130.

Cause:

The Windows 10 Feature "Microsoft-Hyper-V" is installed, reserving ranges of Dynamic IP ports that include the 50060-50159 range. This covers the three ports Lenovo Service Bridge tries to use, causing LSB to fail. This can be confirmed by the command "netsh interface ipv4 show excludedportrange protocol=tcp"

Temporary workaround:

Uninstall the Windows 10 Feature "Microsoft-Hyper-V" using the command "dism.exe /Online /Disable-Feature:Microsoft-Hyper-V" and reboot. LSB will work as designed! Once finished, reinstall the Feature using the "dism.exe /Online /Enable-Feature:Microsoft-Hyper-V" and reboot. LSB will now fail.

Probable source:

"Symptom: After installing this update, applications may not be able to reserve or bind to ports that previously worked."

"Workaround: To resolve this issue, use the following workaround.

Check if the port you want to bind to or reserve is already reserved on the container host. For example, you can use  netsh as follows:

netsh interface ipv4 show excludedportrange protocol=tcp

If the port is not reserved, you may use it. If it is reserved, choose a different port."

I read your post and found a faster workaround:

Just disable Hyper-V on boot, it's a lot faster:

In admin cmd run:

bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off

Reboot and use service bridge, then run the following in admin cmd:

bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto

And reboot.
