Re: Lenovo Sysupdate 5 stopped working on X220

So in services.msc now is there a System Update service?

When you tried to delete the service earlier from a command prompt, did you launch the cmd prompt using "Run as Administrator" ?

Is there a C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\System Update folder?

Is there a C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\SystemUpdate folder?  (Note:  ProgramData is a hidden folder)

Thanks for your reply. So in services.msc now is there a System Update service? Yes, it is set on Manual and it is stopped. When you tried to delete the service earlier from a command prompt, did you launch the cmd prompt using "Run as Administrator" ? When I tried to delete the service from the command prompt, using the text as it was given here, I got the response that there was no such service to delete. So the system "accepted" my command. Therefore, I must have done it as an Admin. Is there a C:\Program Files (x86)\Lenovo\System Update folder? There is no Lenovo\System update folder there. Is there a C:\ProgramData\Lenovo\SystemUpdate folder? (Note: ProgramData is a hidden folder) Yes, there is! And its contents are a folder called "Session," which contains the following: --a folder called "System" --TVSUUpdateTask.xml --updates.ser. Inside the "System" folder, I found this: SSClientCommon Now what to do?

I typed on CMD line the following: SC delete suservice The response was: [sc] OpenService FAILED 5: Access is denied. Why doesn't the guy from Lenovo get back here with answer after I answered his three questions?!

Hello s.clexman (did I get that right?). This time I did as you just wrote, went in through the start button, did the run as admin thing and--SUCCESS! was the result of delete suservice. Then I went to programdata and deleted the systemupdate folder under Lenovo. Now I will close all apps, restart, then try to install systemupdate.

Oh yes--there was no more systemupdate in services.msc. Well here goes on the restart and attempt to install systemupdate.

Re: Lenovo Sysupdate 5 stopped working on X220

Well, here we go again. Systemupdate installed without a glitch. I opened it, found there is no installation history (no surprise, I deleted all the folders, hidden and otherwise). But, as before, the get new updates did not work. I received the error message "An error occurred while gathering user information." Could this be due to my having cloned my 320gb hard drive onto a Samsung 830 SSD. After I had installed the SSD and cloned the old HD to it, the computer booted without a glitch and everything seems to be working just fine. But the newly installed systemupdate, like the one that was cloned along with the rest of the programs and the operating system, does not fetch new updates--its gives the same old error message I have encountered since my cloning exercise. Now what to do? How do I check if I need to update this or that from Lenovo?

Re: Lenovo Sysupdate 5 stopped working on X220

So no one has a solution for me after I have uninstalled totally and then reinstalled SystemUpdate? I still get the message when I try to update that there was an error in collecting user info. Is this a problem with an xml file that is supposed to identify my operating system? If so, what to do? Meanwhile, is there a service on the Lenovo website that will analyze my computer just like SystemUpdate and tell me what things require updating? Then I could manually update each thing--for example, BIOS, display, etc. Please help!

You have Su installed, great.

Several functions of SU.

(1) searching for agent updates

(2)downloading package information (xml)

(3) processing package information

(4) Update list presented

(5) install updates.

==

Seems you are failing at step 3. This requires registry searches, check Hardware info from device. etc.

Is this where you hang?  Does the software hang, program check ( windows says stopped working).

Check C:\program files(x86)\Lenovo\System update\logs.

These logs are not easy to read. Post the last 20 lines of any log entry that looks like the stop point.

IA.exe program is used in step 3 above.

Also make sure your BIOS is at current level. Do not Assume/guess anything. Just post the logs.

I dont understand ERROR in collecting user info, please detail this observation. Post screen shots if you have an error screen.
