Re: Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox 5.05.0009/5.06.0007 - SSL problem

2014-06-16, 21:13 PM

I am my work security department!  I have already whitelisted download.lenovo.com but that doesn't help because on Windows 8 what I am seeing is TVSU requesting an SSL connection directly to an IP address.  That is either a CDN or a TVSU or a Windows 8 problem, but it is not a problem my network has created.  The only problem my network has created is I don't allow any programs to make SSL connections where there is a certificate error or invalid certificate, and since certificates aren't issued to IP addresses, there is an invalid certificate on the connection and it gets blocked and TVSU fails.

If/when I get more time, I will do some more off-corporate-network testing to try capture what the behaviour looks like there, to validate this further.

I think security changes occurred in windows 8/  8.1

I dont think any version of SU will change the issue.

Per your tracking log, did NO security certificate get passed to the direct IP address connection vs a INVALID security certificate show up?

I would certainly think AKAMI  via Lenovo could give you better guidance vs scratching your head for 0.

I would focus on the invalid  certificate, if that  is actually your observation.
