Lenovo Updates picks up the wrong OS

2011-02-04, 5:22 AM

Hi,

I have T410. I formated my laptop and have installed Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. I installed ThinkVantage Toolbox and now trying to update all drivers. When I click "Get Lenovo Updates" from System Health section, it shows me a welcome screen and when I click Next, It shows me Operating System as "Windows Vista"

I have Windows 7 64 Bit, How can this issue be corrected? Is there any settings option? Will this option install correct drivers for my Thinkpad T410?

Thanks & Regards,

Hi,
it is strange.
Do you have installed also SP1 on your Win7 machine? That might mix up the situation, as for now the SP1 on Win7 is not supported.
However, try to check the registry key if there is the OS detected correctly:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Lenovo\System Update\Preferences\UCSettings\RunTime
Cheers

Which system update are you running? Windows 7 needs version 4

I do not have SP1 installed for my Win 7 64bit OS. When I checked the registry setting it shown windows Vista there. What is the value for Win 7? can I change it manually?

Thanks.

Hi,

The correct values should be:

NLSOS: XP.SP2

QOS:  Windows 7

Or just paste here the whole export of HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Lenovo\System update

Cheers

FYI  - I uninstalled Thinkvantage tools and system update on my windows 7 machine last night and then went to the Lenovo site and downloaded the latest thinkvantage tools and installed it.  when I opened thinkvantage tools and then hit the System health and then the Latest software and driver updates button the Lenovo Updates button now asks if you want to install system updates.  If you choose that button it takes you to the Lenovo site BUT it takes you to version 3.4 and not to Version 4.  This can waste a lot of time until you realize the problem.

I just looked and my system has the correct information in the registry for windows 7.
