Need advice on next step for reinstalling win7/formatting pc

2017-03-31, 18:57 PM

Hello,

I have a desktop PC , Lenovo H410 which I've been using since 3-4 years. ( I customized it with a GPU , PSU and additional RAM )

I play fps games on it for years and now I want to format my PC / re-installing windows since I am having issues ( performance issue, crashing, slow loading). I want to start fresh for better performance.

I read a lot of methods on "how to re-install windows" and watch videos for that but since it's 2017 now and

I have a Lenovo PC which has a OneKey Recovery option, I dont know actually what should I do exactly.

Afterall , I dont have a Windows 7 CD.

I have Win7 Professional Service Pack 1 installed on my pc , it was pre-installed when I bought it.

I also got a COA sticker with Win 7 Pro Product Key attached to my pc. Also a lenovo CD with "Lenovo Win7 Drivers Pack..." written on it.

I went to download Win 7 Disc Image ( ISO ) at microsoft : Here : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

But I got this error :

"The product key you entered appears to be for software pre-installed by the device manufacturer.

Please contact the device manufacturer for software recovery options."

I have already backup my important datas and licensed software Key using Belarc Advisor.

I just want some expert advice for what should I do next in this process.

Thank you.

Hi KR3F ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Microsoft no longer offer downloadable ISO and was replaced with Windows 8 /10 as users being referred to OEM to order the recovery media.

Having One Key Recovery features (page 15) still intact on the hidden partitions of your drive, gives you opportunity to start fresh like from out of the box. You would need to back up your personal files before you launch it either within windows OKR tool or tapping F2 on restart to access. The same OKR tool would also give you way to create your recovery media too.

Take note that using the factory reset tool will require to reinstall all other softwares that did not came with your machine so check your product keys for them too (like MSoffice etc.) if needed.

Hope this help answer your query.

Regards

Thanks for your kind welcome and response.

I will try the OneKey Recovery later and I will update the post since it's almost 1 Am here.

What the use of COA sticker with the Win 7 Product Key, can I use it in any way to reinstall windows on the same pc?

Hi,

The OneKey Recovery System will reset your desktop to factory defaults:

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht077226#restore

You can still download a free Windows 7 ISO from alternate sources and use your COA product key during installation to activate it with the original OEM license: (I sent you a link in a PM)

My advice would be as follows:

Try the OneKey Recovery first.

Next, perform a complete system backup (to an external hard drive) using

Macrium Reflect Free

Then, if you are not satisfied with the results, go for a clean install (link provided in PM)

This way, you are fully covered and can revert to Lenovo's factory default status if necessary.

Good luck,

Hi KR3F

The Certificate of Authenticity is a proof of a valid Microsoft product.

It does have a 25 digit key to install Windows of same version.

Among OEM preloaded pc , it would no longer ask for it using an OEM disc .

Using a different media ( like a retail version ) , you may find it useful for activation.

Since you also have a built in Lenovo recovery feature (One Key Recovery) , this would auto image your pc with windows 7 and drivers automatically including activation .

Regards

Hello,

I have a question.

During the OneKey Recovery process, I need to delete/format the (C:) partition ?

According to Disk Management: I have 3 Partitions: 1.Hidden 2. (C:) 3. System Reserved.

And also do I need any recovery disc for the OneKey Recovery process ?

Just curious about it because I watched a video on OneKey Recovery process.

Hi, thanks for the help and advise.

I successfully format my pc using OneKey Recovery.

It was simple and very efficient.

But the only thing I lost is my Microsoft Office Enterprise which came with my pc when I bought it. Microsoft office 2007, power point 2007 and its other components.

I still have the product key which I extracted before formatting my pc.

Any way I can recover it back guys ?

Thanks.

Hi KR3F ,

Greetings.

Good to know it all went ok using One Key Recovery.

As mentioned , using your product key you can try downloading the installer here else call in Microsoft for other options.

You can also create your recovery media for future use.

Take time reading the article as it would be handy later on.

Regards
