Power Manager not working after last update

2009-02-15, 18:04 PM

Hi there,

I' proud owner of R400 733411G, but I have problem with Power Manager making my nb sleep when lid closed.

After reverting to factory defaults from recovery media = complete clean system, I started System Update to make my drivers/sw up-to-date. After updates and restart there was a message "PowerManager stopped working..." right after startup. It crashed with this dump:

Produkt
Power Manager

I guess that this is only the rundll32 part of PowerManager, because the power manager program (RMB on battery > Power Manager) starts ok, and I can also change power plans. The thing that's not working is to "Sleep when lid is closed". When I close the lid, nothing happends. Event though I set that in both Vista settings and in Power Manager (via Global settings).

Can anyone help? Are there any other things I should check? I have all the lastest Windows updates (and also Lenovo updates).

Installs since clean system: Avast! antivirus, TrueCrypt, Firefox and Java update (v 6 i guess)

Thanks in advance

Thank youvery much, gan. Your advice partly helped. I had to uninstall both ThinkVantage Power Manager and Power Management Driver. After TVPM reinstall It works like a charm.I'm just wondering how was the system affectedby removing the PM driver :) I didn't find any problems yet... :)

It looks like that the "stopped working" Power Manager fail to send the message to the system, that the lid was closed. Because when power button is pressed, the notebook will go sleep like normally. But it's not very convenient, I preffer to sleep it when closing the lid.

I have seen problems (like a crash right after startup) with power manager on several Thinkpads after using system update to install or upgrade power manager. In those cases a uninstall of the power manager, reboot and then reinstall manually (not using system update) have solved the problem. Have you tried to uninstall, reboot, reinstall manually?

Ah, I've found what's not working - BatteryStretch :) So I need to re-install the PM Driver. And I also realised why the "Sleep when lid closed" option did not work - it was because I enabled InstantResume - it will not sleep the NB for selected period of time in order not to loose internet connection. I'd suggest that this should be written somewhere near the option !
