Rescue and Recovery 3.1 questions

2011-12-18, 1:25 AM

After much research, I find myself unable to answer the most basic questions about rescue and recovery.  There does not appear to be any instruction manual other than a deployment guide.  If there is one, I would appreciate a link.  Here are the things I am trying to find answers to:

   1.  How does R&R manage backups?  If you set a maximum of 3 incremental backups, what happens on the 4th backup?  Does it just start a new full backup?

   2.  Does R&R ever delete backups, or is that something that is completely manual?  Assuming you backup to a USB drive, will it just put backups on it until it is full?

   3.  Why does R&R complain about insufficient disk space when there is 400G available on the USB hard drive?  It is not an alert, it says it cannot backup.  There is no obvious way to address this problem.

   4.   If R&R does not seem to be working (no movement on status bar), what do you do? How do you get it running again.

R&R is a great concept, but the program seems to be more fragile as the version number has increased.  Any insight will be appreciated.

From my experience:

1) R&R will merge the oldest 2 incremental backups.

2) R&R will not automatically delete backups. It will warn you when it reaches the user set maximum. You can always delete any/all backups manually.

3)I think this is a bug. I have experienced that behavior using v4.31 once in a while. I just upgraded to v4.50 lets see if it doesn't happen again.

4)R&R can be slow. A full backup of my 43GB data takes about 90 minutes. Even Windows backup is faster (35 minutes). Give it some time. If you think it froze, you can always close it using task manager.

Hope this helps. I'll let the gurus take it from here:smileywink:

1. it merges 4 to 3

2. no you can delete them from R&R window advanced menu top left advance

3. launch advanced menu bottom left in set schedule & preferences bottom left & increase the GBs

4. sometimes a popup comes up behind the window if its there click ok if not wait it can be slow
