Re: Restore Factory Settings - Lenovo desktop Windows 7

When I boot up my Lenovo desktop and immediately begin to press the f11 key or the f2 (have tried both), nothing happens.  I get taken to the screen where I enter my password.  I am just looking to restore to factory settings.  I have the original recovery disks that we made when we first bought it,(there are 3), at the end of the 3rd disk, it tells me to enter 4th disk, which there isn't one.  Please help!

If you started the Factory Recovery restore from the DVD set, the HDD is wiped.  This means PF11 will not work at this time. From my use of the DVD set,

(1)disc 1 is the boot system

(2)disc 2 is system goodies

(3)disc 3 is additional files

(4)disc 4 is OPTIONAL files and may or may not exist.

During the restore process, pay close attention to the message around DISC3 or DISC4 DVD request.  You may have the option to cancel out of disc4 and the recovery continues.

What OS are you restoring? vista, win 7, win8?

From my recollection, the Factory Recovery set from the support center does ask for disc4.... The user created Factory Recovery set MAY/or May not ask for disc4.

This post might help:

If you have another pc around, insert each disk 1,2,3 into the machine and see what the CD/DVD title is.

If you have a Supplemental Recovery Disc, insert it when prompted and click Yes. If you do not have a Supplemental Recovery Disc, click No.
Note: Not all recovery disc sets come with a Supplemental Recovery Disc.

Thanks for reply.  I do not have a disc set from Lenovo, these are discs we made ourselves.  We are using Windows 7.  Yesterday while booting up I pressed F8 and received a screen about restore system, but not really sure it did anything as computer still has everything still there.  I will look at the link you sent and try also and let you know.  Thanks for help.

neither of the methods in the above link worked. Once inserting disk, computer boots up as usual. If click on run and select disc drive receive following message "the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running. check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program and then contact the software publisher."

Please state your machine type and model.  There are several versions of Lenovo recovery around. Your machine seems bootable... does it boot into windows 7?

Do you find ONE KEY RECOVERY or Lenovo rescue and recovery on your machine?

When you created the recovery CD/DVD set, did you see "create factory recovery" "create product recovery" on the menu?

I also suggested using another PC, if you have one with CD drive, to state the label shown on each of your 3 CD.

Your symptom during recovery was asking for "cd 4".  This is usually associated with a NON one key recovery system.  I will state the post link I inserted was written by LENOVO  and is a TOUCH confusing.

Provide back the info asked for.  If you hit PF8 at boot time, you got dumped into windows recovery goodies.  A way different recovery experience.

How to restore factory set on Windows is not difficult , but the data on the computer will all but disappear, including your login password , you will not be able to access your computer , but it's not bad , because you can reset a login password again,

Fortunately , to reset Windwors 7 password , if you are a Microsoft account , you can login Micorosoft account on your computer , you can reset your Microsoft account password , if successful , you can use the new password to access your computer ,
