System Update: Package Index Server temporarily unavailable

2008-02-01, 14:26 PM
Keep getting "The Package Index Server is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later" when trying to update.

Any idea when it will be back?

Hi Taomyn, welcome to the forum,

I know what you mean, I've seen this loads of times. This appears mostly just after System Update has updated itself, you need to shut down your TP and start it again. A simple new start is sometimes not enough.

Thanks, but that wasn't the problem as I had the same message on my own laptop which has had System Update on it for months. No number of shutdowns and restarts fixed it.

Seems to be working today so I suspect a problem with the update servers - just seems to happen every time I need to use it,

Cheers,
Taomyn

I have been getting this message since yesterday night, it is very frustrating!!!  reinstalling thinkvista system update software didn't help fix it...

A suggestion might be to open the scheduler and see what the default day of the month is selected to receive updates.   Try changing the default to something during the middle of the month.

Moving to a non prime time for the updates will reduce the tendency to compete for server attention from all the other systems still trying to receive updates at the default time.

This might resolve your trouble.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply!  Unfortunately, this doesn't help with downloading updates after a recovery from restore cds.  Good tip though :)

The solution for this issue is very strange (how surpice:smileyvery-happy:).

Check the "Indexing Service" on your workstation, if it's stopped, start it and enjoy the system update.

At my work in two cases the solution was worked.
